Glastonbury has little-known food rule and not many people know about it

It's been in place for almost 10 years, but many people have no idea about it

Festivals aren't exactly known for their cheap deals on food and drink, with many people well used to handing over £8 or so for a pint of cider in a paper pint cup, knowing there’s no point in even flinching at how much it costs.

Some, like Glastonbury, allow you to carry your own booze and food around, giving you the option to go for that if you don’t want to splash out every time they need a drink.

But there’s no denying that carrying crates of beer and boxes of wine through those festival gates is no easy feat, especially as you know you’ll run those stocks down in no time.

Glastonbury 2024 food and drink prices

A lot of people were staggered when the drinks prices for this year’s event surfaced online, with pints of pilsner costing £6.75, a double spirit and Red Bull for £13.50 and a bottle of prosecco setting you back a whopping £43.50.

There’s been some backlash to food prices, too, with some people noting how toasties at the beloved San Remo bar cost up to £11.

But there’s actually a little more to the picture than people realise.

At Glastonbury, there’s a little-known rule that’s been in place since 2015, and it’s actually one that could end up saving you money.

Glastonbury’s £6 Offering

For almost 10 years, Glastonbury organisers have made a pledge to themselves to help festivalgoers ‘go easy on their pocket’, having introduced a £6 Offering scheme.

The event ensures that a certain percentage of traders must have at least one meal option costing no more than £6, meaning people are able to eat something for a reasonable price if they need or want to.

This year, 300 stallholders – or 75 percent of all vendors – will be participating, with examples of £6 meals on offer including ‘a katsu wrap, classic grilled cheese with slaw, muesli and coffee breakfast combination, a bowl of homemade chilli, a kids meal and a drink, a falafel pitta, a hearty salad, Thai curry and rice, chicken with fries and gravy or a deal on coffee and cakes for two’.

How to find £6 meals at Glastonbury

Not all traders participate in the scheme, so you’ll have to find out the ones that are doing so this year.

“Participating traders will feature a sticker (pictured above) on their menu boards along with information on the food they are offering, so they will be easy to spot,” Glastonbury said on its website.

Below is a list of confirmed participating £6 Offering vendors at Glastonbury this year. However, there may be many more on site, so keep your eyes peeled for the special stickers.

If you're not sure, you can always ask the vendor to see if they have any options on the menu.
