Doctors reveal gross 'BBL smell' side effect that no one talks about

Brazilian Butt Lifts are risky procedures, which can be smelly

Before you rush to change the shape of your body, a doctor is warning people about a side effect that you might not now about.

Even though getting a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) has been popular for many years, there’s a smelly downside that’s only just coming to light in recent times.

If you haven’t been keeping up with the times right now, there has been a nasty rumour swirling around social media that Cardi B’s BBL has an odour, as per malicious posts.

There’s no hate quite like the hate spread online, and while the rumours are unfounded, BBL smells are actually a thing.

The procedure, which transfers fat to specific areas of the body to give a person an hourglass figure has been used for years, and the results can be quite dramatic.

Aiming for curves in all the right places, some people spend a lot of money completing the surgery so that they can feel more comfortable in their skin.

Of course, everyone is beautiful in their own way, and there’s never going to be a person exactly like you, but if you feel that you absolutely must change something, as long as it’s being done safely, it’s not harming anyone.

But understanding the side effects of a surgery like this is essential.

BBL’s are very risky, and can actually risk your life, infections, and more.

Just recently, one Derby woman was left fearing for her life when she ended up in hospital with sepsis after having a BBL.

Not only are they risky, but they also can come with an unpleasant smell.

According to Dr Eric Anderson from Impressions Face + Body, it’s a real thing to be wary of.

He told the Daily Mail: “The BBL smell is real.”

This can occur through bad hygiene practices, sweating, or sitting for too long.

It can also be caused by a person being ‘overfilled with fat during the procedure’ and fat necrosis happens.

Fat necrosis is when fat tissues die, producing a rancid smell.

“When there is more fat in an area than the blood supply allows, the fat will die through a smelly process called fat necrosis, which can lead to infections that need antibiotics, hospitalizations, and even sepsis,” Anderson told the outlet.

According to South Shore Plastic Surgery, it can be harder to maintain hygiene after having a BBL, with the website stating: “Maintaining optimal hygiene after a BBL can be challenging, especially when using the restroom.”

The clinic explained: “Residual stool or urine on the skin can lead to bacterial growth and odor development if not cleaned thoroughly. Be extra diligent about cleansing after bowel movements and urination to prevent unwanted smells.”

To help with this smell, or to prevent it, it suggests regular showers with lukewarm water, gently cleansing the area with a fragrance-free cleanser, and frequently changing your bedsheets and clothing to prevent moisture and bacteria build up.

You can also use gentle, fragrance-free wet wipes or a bidet after using the bathroom, as well as changing your underwear and clothing that touches incision sites frequently.

This is to prevent bacterial growth, and of course, the smell.

So, if you can do all of those things, you might be able to escape the BBL smell.
