When you leave your dog in the house alone, it's often expected that they might misbehave a little. We're talking about a chewed shoe, or maybe a bit of barking.

But what you don't expect upon your return is to find your dog on the roof of your house, being rescued by a fire crew. Well, it's exactly what happened Cathryn Wood, 36 and her husband Phil, 46, from Cornwall.

You can see a clip below:

The couple popped to the pub with Phil's parents, but when they returned they found Tammy - Phil's parents' dog - on the roof of their home.

Tammy, and Cathryn and Phil's pooch, Maple, had clambered onto the roof after escaping from a bedroom window. Luckily, the naughty pair were spotted by neighbours who called 999.

Cathryn, a trainee manager at Sainsburys, said: "We'd gone into the town for some food because Phil's family were down and we left the dogs at home.

"We'd just gone to Wetherspoon's for tea. We weren't gone for long, only about an hour.

"We were walking up through the town and Maple was running down the main street, we picked her up and as we got closer to home there was a fire engine outside.

"I thought there had been a fire but as we got closer we saw a crowd of people and Tammy was on the roof."

Maple, a cockerpoo, had managed to get down from the roof herself before emergency services arrived but poor Tammy, a spaniel, was left terrified on the roof.

Cathryn added: "Maple had already jumped down but Tammy was too scared. She was petrified.

"They've never done anything like this before, she's escaped over the fence before but she's never gone onto the roof.

"People couldn't believe it, they were like, 'oh my god', and there was a crowd of people watching.

"It's so hot in the attic that I have to leave the window open, but from now on I'll have to keep the bedroom door shut.

"It's lucky that no one was injured, and the dogs, and that there was no fire. I heard someone singing who let the dogs out when I got back."

Luckily, Tammy was coaxed back into the house through the window and is now safe and sound!

Earlier this month, we told you about another mischievous pooch who actually managed to jump out of an upstairs window while his owners were out. You can read all about that here!
