People Are Just Discovering You Can Turn McDonald's Cups Into 'Sippy Cups'

This is crazy.

People are just discovering that you can turn some McDonald’s cups into ‘sippy cups’, and we’re shook.

Gone are the days of balancing your burger, fries, drink and straw all in one hand. Thankfully, you can now eliminate the often-wasted straw from your hold and simply sip away at your beverage of choice, as you do. Here’s how:

Whilst the sippy cups aren't currently available in the UK, Maccies fans from across the globe have been sharing the discovery on social media.

“At least McDonald’s made us a sippy cup,” one social media user responded to someone’s question about ‘refusing to use those darn paper straws restaurants are giving us nowadays’?

Another snapped a photo of their swanky new cup lid, writing: “I just find it kinda funny how McDonald’s gave me a sippy cup for my drive through.”

Taking to Reddit, one person added: “Mcdonald's has changed their cup lids to the sippable kind. Good for them!”

“McDonald’s in my country uses a sippy cup style lid to replace straws,” another said.

“These are the same type of lids used in McDs in Taiwan,’ someone else explained on the site.

One person excitedly said: “Now I can drink like a MAN! Sucking through a straw makes me look like a kid!”

Tyla has contacted a representative of McDonald's to confirm the lid changes.

It comes as the well-known restaurant agreed to scrap plastic straws in the UK in 2018, having completely eliminated them the following year.

Whilst we’re not sure whether this trick works on the fast-food chain’s cup lids in the UK, the US or further afield, quite a few people have already verified the new lids on social media (Pexels).

The Sum of Us petition previously called for the change to remove straws from restaurants, warning that plastic straws pollute the ocean, harm seabirds and damages marine wildlife.

McDonald’s said it had listened to customer worries on the matter, and began phasing out plastic straws in September 2018, having completed the process at some point in 2019.
