New Toy Story 5 trailer sparks confusion as major ‘plot hole’ is spotted

The latest flick from the beloved Pixar franchise is set to hit cinemas next year (19 June)

The wait is finally over, guys, as the new Toy Story 5 teaser trailer has finally been released.

Any Pixar fans will no doubt be itching for their next fix of the iconic film franchise, with the most recent flick, Toy Story 4, hitting our screens over half a decade ago, back in 2019.

That film, as we know, ended with Woody's farewell after he came to the heart-wrenching realisation he is no longer Bonnie's favourite toy. Instead, he finds purpose in being a 'lost toy' with Bo Peep and chooses to stay with her.

Paving the way for a new beginning, he leaves his old life behind to travel with Bo and their friends and embarks on a new mission to help other lost toys find their purpose or a child to love them.

As a final goodbye, Woody gives his sheriff's badge to Jessie, ensuring she will be the new sheriff and has her own place in the room. He also says a heartfelt goodbye to Buzz - of course.

The only thing is, the new 49-second teaser trailer, which was uploaded to social media yesterday (11 November), sees Woody's return - with many fans left confused over what they're calling a major 'plot hole'.

Check it out here:

Now, the trailer teases the latest nemesis for Woody (Tom Hanks), Buzz (Tim Allen) and the rest of the oddball gang.

Taking a more modern approach, we see the toys competing for Bonnie's attention against an electronic game table called Lilypad, voiced by Greta Lee.

Despite the clear excitement for the film's release, which is set to be in the summer of next year (19 June), people couldn't help but share their thoughts on the whole return of Woody sitch.

"See but like how did Woody get back there after staying with Bo peep such a plot hole," questioned one fan.

A second wondered: "Didn't Woody leave with Bo Peep in TS4 - what happened?"

"So we're gonna pretend Woody wasn't left at a carnival in Toy Story 4?" echoed a third, while a fourth chimed in: "Bro how many times they gon’ say goodbye. Woody done retired twice already."

A fifth quipped: "So Woody is just back. Like nothing happened."

"Look at Woody just sliding back in," penned another.

And a final fan beamed: "At least Woody is reuniting with the gang for this movie."

Toy Story 5 is set to be directed by Andrew Stanton, AKA the mastermind behind the screenplay for the original Toy Story film, and who also won animated feature Oscars for directing both Finding Nemo and Wall-E.

Co-director Kenna Harris said in a press release: "It’s been a hilarious and poignant journey exploring how our favourite team of legacy toys might respond to today’s world of technology, and we’re thrilled to share this first glimpse with audiences,

"Having the remarkably talented Greta Lee bring Lilypad to life - balancing a playfully antagonistic tone with humour and heart - has been incredible."
