Many shows get cancelled after one season, but somehow, this one is back for a second despite causing widespread horror.

Virgin Island made headlines for all the wrong reasons last year, but unbelievably they have found yet more willing participants for a second season to be made.

In case you missed it last year, the premise of the Channel 4 show is as weird as it sounds.

A group of people aged between 22 and 30, who have never had sex or experienced intimacy are taken to a luxury retreat in Croatia.

There, they are teamed up with 'sex experts', to discuss and work on any fears or barriers they might have around intimacy.

The hope is that the show will bring enable them to lose their virginity, but last year one participant crossed the line and viewers were shocked by the scenes.

One of the contestants, Zac, was told to put his clothes back on by a therapist he was having a session with, called Kat Slade.

Controversially, Kat is what the show refers to as a 'surrogate partner therapists', which means she is willing to have sex with the participants if needed.

She says she is 'dedicated to helping individuals move through physical and emotional barriers to achieve greater intimacy and sexual expression'.

Zac, a 28-year-old delivery driver told Kat: “I want to move forward… I want to touch you and be touched by you.”

He then said: “I came in here confident and excited, and I don’t know if you’re as used to that in this line of work and I don’t know if you find that intimidating.”

She told him to put his clothes on and instantly ended the session.

It seems that sex sells, as according to The Mirror the first season boasted 1.4 million viewers per show, and tonight, Monday April 27, sees 12 new virgins hitting our screens as they head to the island.

Showrunners said the idea came about for the show after University College London carried out research which revealed that one in eight 26-year-olds were still virgins, compared to one in 20 in previous generations.

Participants in the new series have many varied issues, including body confidence problems, Covid lockdowns reducing opportunities to meet people at university, while one woman has a condition called vaginismus which causes severe pain.

Others describe themselves 'freezing' when the opportunity arises, while one man refers to himself as a 'loner' who prefers to stay home gaming.

Only one of the 12 participants lost their virginity in the first season, after a man called Dave was successfully intimate with Kat.

While not a lot was shown on screen, there was audio played.

Fans will have to wait to see how the new batch of hopefuls get on.
