How to watch Gavin and Stacey New Year’s special today

We don't blame you if you're not quite ready to say goodbye to Gavin & Stacey just yet after that fantastic festive finale.

It ended all so nicely too, with Smithy (James Corden) realising his true feelings for Nessa (Ruth Jones), leading him to ditch his wedding to Sonia (Laura Aikman) and propose to Nessa before she leaves the UK for a new job on a ship.

All's well ends well, but viewers enjoyed the series so much - even if they did spot a few blunders here and there - that they don't really want it to end.

Well, if you are one of those people then you're in luck as a special documentary is being released today (1 January), just a week after the Christmas send off.

What is the New Year's Special?

Gavin and Stacey originally started life as a BBC Three sitcom following the romance of Gavin Shipman (Matthew Horne) and Stacey West (Joanna Page), but soon snowballed into a smash-hit TV show and household name - so it seems only fair that it gets a strong send-off.

Called A Fond Farewell, Jones and Corden will return for a very special documentary which will encompass the whole of the show, according to The Radio Times.

It's one last hurrah for the show, and will go back to the very beginning where it all began and will feature all the cast members you know and love.

The stars will also be giving a behind the scenes look at what exactly goes into making the show.

They gave documentary makers unprecedented access to the filming of the finale, which managed to successfully keep some big secrets.

It'll cover the three series of the show along with the three festive specials, as well as examining the influence Gavin and Stacey had on popular culture - we can probably all quote Smithy's Indian takeaway order by heart at this point - and the legacy the show is leaving behind as a whole host of surprise celebrity guests will be talking about the show and just what it means to them.

Expect to see highlights, best bits, and prepare to relive your favourite moments once more.

How can I watch it?

The show will be a one-hour special, and the place to watch Gavin & Stacey: A Fond Farewell is at 7pm on BBC One tonight, New Year's Day (1 January).

After it airs, you will be able to catch up on the BBC iPlayer.

In case you also missed that Christmas special finale and have somehow managed the festive miracle of avoiding any spoilers, you can also catch up with that too on iPlayer.
