Gavin and Stacey fans have finally been treated to footage from Bryn and Jason's infamous 'fishing trip' as a new clip has been released.

Now, fans were left in tears during the finale episode that aired on Christmas Day which finally saw Smithy and Nessa tie the knot at long last.

The conclusion was clearly a much-welcomed end to the long-running series and, since then, BBC viewers have been treated to one last Gavin and Stacey dose in a new documentary titled A Fond Farewell, which aired on the BBC last night (1 January).

The doc offers fans a glimpse at the making of the long-awaited finale episode, as well as taking a trip down memory lane and looking back at the show's origins, and its impressive 17-year run.

And, to wrap up the New Year's special, viewers were finally shown the unseen footage of the iconic fishing trip which became cemented as one of the sitcom's most famous long-running jokes.

The footage from the trip, which caused a massive split between Bryn and his nephew Jason, was aired over the end credits - finally giving fans some answers to the age-old mystery.

The extremely shaky, hand-held camcorder-style footage footage in question shows Bryn, played by Rob Brydon, saying 'who do we have here?' before the camera pans to Jason, played by Robert Wilfort, holding a pretty sizeable fish.

Bryn then quips 'no one will go hungry in this camp tonight' before the screen fades to black as he says: "Enjoy your soup!"

Now, the soup is key in this Gavin and Stacey fishing trip lore given that it's one of the very few key bits of information we know about what went down that fateful day - as well as it being very cold and whatever happened 'wasn't illegal'.

It's clear that fans of the beloved TV show couldn't have been happier with the decision to end the documentary with the footage with many rushing to social media to share their praise.

One X user penned: "The infamous fishing trip!!!!"

"Teasing the fishing trip in the end credits was f*cking class," beamed a second while a third gushed: "Ruth and James had the chance to do the funniest thing ever and they did."

A fourth piped up: "Oh my Christ, the FISHING TRIP."

"THEY REALLY THREW IN ONE LAST TEASE FOR THE FISHING TRIP," exclaimed a fifth social media user while a sixth gushed: "This was genius!"

And a final X user declared: "Everything related to #Gavinandstacey is absolutely unreal. Fantastic documentary and, wonderfully, rounding off with that fishing trip home video snippet - absolute pure class."

Agreed.
