Devil Wears Prada 2 trailer explained after some fans miss the point

A sequel? For spring? Groundbreaking.

It's happening, guys. The Devil Wears Prada 2 trailer has just dropped.

Fans of the hit 2006 comedy-drama starring Meryl Streep as scary Runway Magazine boss, Miranda Priestley, Anne Hathaway as aspiring journalist Andrea Sachs, Emily Blunt as Amanda's fashion-obsessed senior assistant Emily Charlton and, of course, Stanley Tucci as Nigel Kiping - AKA the loyal Art Director of Runway and Miranda's long-serving right-hand man.

Now, 20 years later, we're finally seeing the original star-studded cast reunite with the eagerly-anticipated trailer to the sequel just dropping, leaving some fans seriously perplexed.

The trailer sees Miranda and Nigel reuniting with Andy and, later, Emily. Check it out here:

However, Miranda appears to remember neither of them and she also seems to pull a blank when reminded of her habit of referring to all her assistants as 'Emilys'.

The trailer has broken records, given that it's racked up over four million views since it was uploaded earlier this morning (2 February), making it the most-viewed comedy trailer in 15 years, per The Guardian.

As we say, a number of fans were left baffled over Miranda's apparent memory loss with many speculating that she had Alzheimer's disease or dementia.

One X user questioned: "Why did they give Miranda dementia?"

"Of course, she doesn't remember her assistants from 20 years ago! I'm so pumped for this," defended a second as a third chimed in: "Having Miranda be so forgetful IS A STROKE OF GENIUS."

Both Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway will be returning for The Devil Wears Prada 2 (20th Century Studios)

A fourth asked: "How does Miranda not remember the assistant who literally invaded her room, tried to stop her from getting stabbed in the back at work, and even got a recommendation letter from her when she quit?"

"Did Miranda get dementia or what?" echoed a fifth.

Others, however, reckoned Miranda's apparent forgetfulness was simply the character messing with Andy and Emily.

"Why are half the quotes saying dementia lmaooo can’t my toxic editor in chief have a little fun terrorising her Emilys again?" hit out one fan.

The highly-anticipated sequel is set to his cinemas later this year in May (20th Century Studios)

A second jabbed: "Media literacy is so dead bc what do you mean people are genuinely theorising Miranda has Alzheimer’s/dementia."

"People thinking Miranda f*cking Priestley does not remember Andy and Emily because she has dementia or because she never cared for them, is peak 'open the schools' moment," slammed a third. "She. Is. Messing. With. Them. As. ALWAYS. Mother knows her daughters, trust."

And a final fan added: "'Not Miranda having Alzheimer’s', 'not Miranda having dementia', her a** is pulling a Mariah, please be serious."

Well, I guess we'll simply have to wait and see!

The Devil Wears Prada 2 is set to hit cinemas later this summer (1 May).
