An Amazon original drama starring Nicole Kidman has landed on Prime today, ready to become your next obsession.

With the end of the week finally upon us, we’re all turning to the TV for some weekend downtime – especially as The Traitors will have reached its climax, leaving an undeniable void in our screen time.

Ideally, we want a nice, gripping series that we’ll get so engrossed in that we won’t even want to move, other than to answer the door to the takeaway.

It stars Nicole Kidman as an American woman living in Hong Kong.

Well, how about a six-part limited series set in Hong Kong, starring Nicole Kidman, Sarayu Blue and Ji-young Yoo as three American women whose lives are turned upside down by a ‘sudden family tragedy’? Sounds like EXACTLY the sort of thing we need, right?

Based on the best-selling novel The Expatriates by Janice YK Lee, Expats is a limited series from director Lulu Wang.

Set against the ‘complex tapestry of Hong Kong residents’, it follows a group of women after a single encounter sets off a chain of ‘life-altering events’, leaving them navigating the intricate balance between blame and accountability.

Watch the star in action below:

“The series interrogates privilege and explores what happens when the line between victimhood and culpability becomes blurred,” Amazon said of the show when it was first announced.

The supporting cast includes the likes of Brian Tee and Jack Huston, who play the husbands of two of the American women.

And before you’re wondering if it’ll be any good, the good news is that the critics have already spoken... and they’re very happy indeed, with the series currently sitting pretty with 80 percent on Rotten Tomatoes' Tomatometer.

It's already has great reviews.

The Evening Standard gave the ‘stylish noirish psychological thriller’ a full five stars in its review, saying the premise is both ‘immediately compelling and universally haunting’.

Collider also said Kidman delivers a ‘strong performance’ in the role of a grieving mother, while Time magazine said it marks the ‘first must-see show of 2024', adding: “To understand family is to understand the profound impact that people bound by blood or love or proximity can have on one another.

“Expats never loses sight of how those same connections aggregate to form the mysterious phenomenon we call society.”
