If you're stuck for something good to watch then look no further than Netflix which has an ‘underrated masterpiece’ drama starring the likes of Dakota Johnson and Paul Mescal.

We've been far from short for cracking viewing material to binge so far this year and the Netflix bangers don't seem to be slowing down any time soon.

It's clear that Mescal is definitely having a bit of a moment right now so it makes total sense why fans all over are rediscovering the award-winning blockbuster smash-hit which first hit our screens back in 2021.

Check out the official trailer for the it here:

The official Netflix premise for the film reads: "A woman's quiet seaside vacation takes an unsettling turn when her fixation on a young mother staying at a nearby villa awakens memories from her past."

Directed by Maggie Gyllenhaal, and adapted from the novel of the same title by Elena Ferrante, the plot of The Lost Daughter explored the psyche of main character Leda who is played at different stages in her life by Olivia Colman and Jessie Buckley.

Leda heads to Greece on holiday where she meets and becomes obsessed with Nina, a struggling young mother played by Johnson.

Constantly shifting through flashback and present day, meeting Nina triggers Leda to reflect on her own experiences as an overwhelmed young mother who eventually chose to leave her family behind - something I'm sure not many of us have seen up on the silver screen before.

"We’ve been told that only a few things are really acceptable in terms of our feelings about parenting, and yet parenting is, I think, the most complicated, incredible and also the biggest challenge that there is," Gyllenhaal previously told The Washington Post.

Paul Mescal stars as Will, a beach bar worker who is having an affair with Nina.

"To me, this is a woman who is a hero, even though she is someone who has caused probably irreparable damage to both herself and her children... But she is a hero to me because she is brave enough to go down into the darkest, most painful, shameful parts of herself and take a look. And that is where the life is."

And it seems viewers totally agree with many rushing to social media to share their praise for the gripping watch.

One X, formerly Twitter, user penned: "The Lost Daughter is an underrated masterpiece."

Netflix

A second called The Lost Daughter an 'underrated and under-appreciated movie about a mother who didn't really enjoy being a mother', adding: "Another master performance from Olivia Colman, directed beautifully by Maggie Gyllenhaal."

"The Lost Daughter on Netflix is excellent," a third chimed in. "A tour de force of acting from Olivia Colman, Jessie Buckley and Dakota Johnson. Well done Maggie Gyllenhaal!"

A fourth revealed: "Saw The Lost Daughter on Netflix last night and I am certain it has permanently changed my view on women and womanhood... in the nicest way possible.

Olivia Colman starred as Leda in the horror-drama.
Netflix

"Profoundly vulnerable, strikingly insightful and unapologetically real.. Brb building a shrine to Olivia Colman."

Another gushed: "The Lost Daughter on Netflix is absolutely beautiful - haunting but beautiful with incredible performances from Olivia Colman and Dakota Johnson."

A final viewer echoed: "The Lost Daughter on Netflix is exquisite storytelling."

Indeed it is.
