Shailene Woodley issues response to question about ex-fiancé Aaron Rodgers' controversial relationship claim

Shailene Woodley has responded to her ex Aaron Rodgers' claims that she had asked him for permission to sleep with someone else after they got engaged.

Speaking on the Not Just Football podcast about his and Woodley's engagement, American football player Rodgers, 42, stated: "She said yes. … A couple days after that she tells me, 'Before we get married I gotta go **** this guy'."

Rodgers did not outline who the individual was during the podcast, which aired on YouTube last week (10 September).

Elsewhere in the podcast, Rodgers made several comments about his relationship with Woodley, which reportedly came to an end in early 2022 following their December 2020 engagement. The pair were first romantically linked in July of that same year.

"Her story is that I ruined her life and gave her a crazy depression because I left her," he claimed.

"We had a couple of times where we tried to, you know, get reunited, and nothing ever happened."

Recalling the engagement, he added: "I propose, and she says yes. She maybe felt like she was forced to make a decision. She could have said no.

"She literally told me, 'I don't want to be with you' after we tried to have some sort of reconciliation in 2021.

"There's a lot of narratives out there that are just not true."

Woodley, 34, who recently took home the award for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series at the primetime Emmys for her performance in Paradise, was asked about Rodgers' comments about her allegedly wanting to open their relationship before tying the knot at a fundraiser before the Emmys on Sunday (13 September).

A reporter in a video shared by TMZ could be seen asking her: "Any comment about Aaron Rodgers?"

Woodley turned to where the voice was coming from before laughing, seemingly responding to the discourse sweeping across social media at the moment.

Previously speaking about how her 'traumatic' relationship with Rodgers affected her mental health, Woodley told Outside back in December 2024: "I felt like I lost my soul, my self, my happiness, my joy.

"I really understood depression and anxiety and, like, complete soul detachment."

Rodgers, who last year secretly tied the knot with his wife Brittani, also accused his other ex, Danica Patrick, of sharing false narratives about their relationships with him that cast him in a bad light during the podcast.
