Netflix viewers spot disturbing red flag in Pastor’s Wife as new update on case emerges

Death of the Pastor's Wife viewers have agreed on one huge ‘red flag’ they noticed while watching the new documentary series.
The show, which dropped on Netflix on Wednesday (26 August), follows the real-life story of Mica Miller - a young woman who grew up in church, but found that things took a turn when she married her local pastor, John-Paul Miller, who led the congregation at Solid Rock Church in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
Tragically, Mica was found dead at Lumber River State Park in North Carolina at the age of 30 on 27 April, 2024, with her death ruled a suicide.

Shortly before she died, she had called 911 and indicated that she intended to take her own life.
However, the case drew national attention after evidence surfaced that Mica had claimed to be the victim in a stalking plot by her own husband.
Now, the new three-part documentary series chronicles the events leading up to her sudden and mysterious death and the fight for answers that continues today.
It features never-before-seen footage and direct accounts from friends and family who are speaking out for the first time and have been left with unanswered questions.
In the series, Mica's loved ones claim that her faith was being used against her and that she was trapped inside a marriage that became more controlling.
Evidence emerged following her death that she had faced abuse and coercive control from Miller, who allegedly planted tracking devices on her car, slashed her tyres and flooded her phone with calls and texts.
She filed for divorce; however, two days after he was served the papers, Mica was found dead.
According to a 911 audio recording, she said: "I’m about to kill myself, and I want my family to find me."
John-Paul was later arrested for cyberstalking and making false statements to investigators - he has pleaded not guilty and is set for trial in October.
The pastor has not been charged with any crimes in relation to her death, which was ruled a suicide.
The ‘red flag’ viewers noticed
Since the show dropped, fans have been talking about the harrowing story on social media, including one specific ‘red flag’ they noticed - some of the disturbing topics John-Paul appeared to talk about during sermons.
He preached about wives’ ‘sexual obligations’ to their husbands, and once said that if a wife doesn’t meet her husband’s sexual needs, ‘Satan will put 20 different options before his eyes’.
One X user demanded: "It’s really interesting how many people faithfully watched JP preach absolute garbage weekly #DeathOfThePastorsWife #netflix."
Another questioned: "Started watching Death of a Pastor's Wife and I’m trying to figure out why were these people sitting through these weird [expletive] sermons #netflix."
A third added: "This documentary was actually hard to watch. Those sermons were painful to listen to."
And someone else wrote: "These sermons were a red flag. I would have walked out immediately mid-sentence if I heard ur husband will find someone immediately if u aren’t fulfilling his needs. Wtaf #deathofapastorswife."
Where is John-Paul Miller now?
In December 2025, a federal grand jury indicted John-Paul on two counts - one count of making false statements to federal investigators and one count of cyberstalking, as per a press release from the US Attorney’s Office.
The indictment alleges that he ‘sent unwanted and harassing communications to his estranged wife until her death’.
According to the office, the behaviour included Miller ‘posting a nude photo of the victim online without her consent, causing tracking devices to be placed on her vehicle, and in one instance, contacting her over 50 times in a single day’.
The indictment also alleges he interfered with her finances and her daily activities and, on one occasion, damaged her vehicle tyres.
He now faces a maximum penalty of five years in prison for cyberstalking and two years in prison for his false statements, as well as a fine of up to $250,000 (£184,400).
According to South Carolina news channel WPDE, John-Paul is currently out of jail on a $100,000 (£73,750) bond, and his federal trial is scheduled for October 2026.
He has pleaded not guilty to the federal charges and has not been charged in connection with her death.
