The doctor of 1000-lb Sister star Tammy Slaton has issued a series of important warnings after addressing her dramatic skin removal transformation.

Taking to Instagram last month (27 June), Dr Eric Smith - who performed Tammy's bariatric surgery back in 2022, began: "I've seen thousands of people over the years have skin removal and plastic surgery after their weight loss journey.

"It's an extremely exciting time for people, because it's almost like that final stamp on their journey of like, 'I've put in all this hard work, this loose skin has been created by the hard work that I've done, and now it's my final surgical mark, so to speak, on my journey'."

He continued to outline 'three important things that you need to keep in mind if you're thinking about having plastic surgery'.

'Who should be doing your surgery?'

He went on to stress that such a surgery should always be done by a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon, someone who has specialised and trained in doing plastic surgery.

"You want to get the best result possible and get the best outcome, and someone who also can recommend the right surgery for you," Eric urged. "It's not just as simple as cutting off skin."

'What can you do to make sure your surgery ends up having the best outcome possible?'

Second on the list, now, with what you can do to make sure you have the best outcome possible.

"Nutrition, nutrition, nutrition," Eric says. "We as bariatric surgeons preach the importance of vitamin replacement, supplementation and optimising your nutrition. Healing is optimal only when you optimise your nutrition.

"Plastic Surgeons are going to give you incisions from one hip bone to the other. The larger the incision, the higher the risk of wounds coming apart, de hissing, getting infected. And what you can do to prevent that is make sure that your nutrition is optimised. You have to eat good, whole, healthy foods in order to heal well."

'What should be your mindset about having plastic surgery?'

And, lastly, Eric went into further detail regarding what your mental approach should be a plastic surgery?

"I realise that there's some people that may not be able to afford plastic surgery, and I hear all the time, 'but Doc, what about all that loose skin that I have after I lose all this weight?' No one's ever died of loose skin," he pointed out. "And I don't want to make light of the fact that people that have to put up with the loose skin, but that's a perception thing that is not a health thing.

"If you think that plastic surgery will fix your perception of who you feel you are, you're probably going to be sorely disappointed after plastic surgery."

So, he recommends, 'sit down talk with your plastic surgeon'.

"Your plastic surgeon should want to take the time to set expectations for you, and if you hear yourself saying, 'Once I had this surgery, I'll be happy', stop, take a deep breath and realise there's probably some things from a mental health standpoint you need to work on to realise plastic surgery should be icing on the cake, but it shouldn't be seen as a fix of your self value and your self worth."

"Weight loss surgery is just the beginning. For a lot of people, skin removal surgery becomes the next step," he captioned the post, adding that he's 'supported thousands of patients on that road'.

Eric added: "If that’s where you’re headed, keep these 3 things in mind:

"Find a plastic surgeon who understands massive weight loss.

"Keep doing the work - your habits matter now more than ever.

"Be mentally prepared - healing is more than skin deep."

He concluded: "Transformation doesn’t end with the scale. Keep going. Win today."
