Salma Hayek, 56, reveals key to ‘looking young’ is not washing your face in the morning

The Mexican-American actress insisted the beauty hack is 'not disgusting'

It can sometimes feel impossible to navigate the fact from the fiction when it comes to the efficiency of skincare nowadays.

With TikTokers professing a 12-step 'clear skin' routine to implement into your already-busy morning, influencers promoting weapon-like ice-rollers said to 'de-puff' your face and aestheticians alleging that the only way of erasing fine lines is to have filler injected into your face, where can women turn to anymore for genuine beauty advice?

Apparently, the only person we need to liaise with on this matter is Hollywood bombshell Salma Hayek.

The Mexican-American actress - best known for her lead roles in the likes of Frida and Grown Ups - has had heaps of praise hoarded onto her from fans for decades for natural beauty and glowing skin.

It's no wonder, therefore, that millions of her followers have been dying to know her skincare routine for years.

And luckily for them, last year, the 57-year-old Golden Globe-winner let us in on one of her handiest beauty hacks - and it's way less complicated than you might have thought.

In fact, Salma says the key to beautiful skin is NOT washing your face in the first thing in the morning.

While it’s tempting to ignore this advice, you can hardly argue with the results...

And don't worry! She assured fans at the time this practice is 'not disgusting' as she spoke about her beauty secret - which was handed down to her by her grandmother.

Speaking to British GQ, the Magic Mike actress revealed she'd received the advice as a teen.

She explained: “What happens at night is your skin produces all the oils that your skin needs to look youthful. It regenerates. So, wash your skin really great at night but don't wash the hard work off your skin in the morning.”

Despite having access to the world’s best dermatologists and cosmetic treatments, Hayek insisted that this was the key to her youthful skin.

However, not everyone is convinced by Hayek’s advice despite the actress looking ageless.

Bruce Green, a chemist and founder of SOS Serum Skincare, has advised people not to skip washing their face in the morning after seeing the clip online.

“I love Salma but I don’t agree with her grandmother’s or her views on skin cleansing. Cleansing is one of the single most important things you can do for your skin,” he revealed.

Salma says her skincare hack was passed down to her from her grandmother.

He then explained that everyone’s skin accumulates dirt throughout the day, from sweat, make up, sebum and pollution.

The best way to protect against this is via cleansing, as he explained: "If you do not cleanse your skin twice a day, your pores will become clogged, and your skin will start to look dull."

Nevertheless, the expert still has a lot of love for the movie star, joking: “Salma - I enjoy your films but not your skincare advice!"
