Forget 10-step skincare routines, Salma Hayek says the key to beautiful skin is not washing your face in the first thing in the morning.

While it’s tempting to ignore this advice, you can hardly argue with the results.

The 56-year-old actress has incredible skin and people often assumed she is a lot younger than she is.

For those who are still unsure though, Salma has assured fans that ‘it’s not disgusting’ as she spoke about her beauty secret during a recent interview.

In fact, the Golden Globe winning actress was more than willing to speak about her skincare secret - which had been handed down to her by her grandmother.

It came after Hayek saw a tweet from a fan that gushed about the her glowing skin.

They wrote: “What is Salma Hayek’s skincare routine? That woman is in her 50s and looks amazing."

Salma often shares stunning bare face selfies.

Teasing the fan, Hayek said: “What? I’m 41! No, I’m just kidding."

During an interview with British GQ, the Magic Mike actress admitted that she doesn’t wash her face in the morning, after receiving the advice as a teen.

"My grandmother taught me to never wash my face in the morning. It's not disgusting guys,” she told fans.

Despite having access to the world’s best dermatologists and cosmetic treatments, Hayek insisted that this was the key to her youthful skin.

She explained: “What happens at night is your skin produces all the oils that your skin needs to look youthful. It regenerates. So, wash your skin really great at night but don't wash the hard work off your skin in the morning.”

However, not everyone is convinced by Hayek’s advice despite the actress looking ageless.

Bruce Green, a chemist and founder of SOS Serum Skincare, has advised people not to skip washing their face in the morning after seeing the clip online.

“I love Salma but I don’t agree with her grandmother’s or her views on skin cleansing. Cleansing is one of the single most important things you can do for your skin,” he revealed.

One skincare expert wouldn't recommend Salma's skincare routine.

He then explained that everyone’s skin accumulates dirt throughout the day, from sweat, make up, sebum and pollution.

The best way to protect against this is via cleansing, as he explained: "If you do not cleanse your skin twice a day, your pores will become clogged, and your skin will start to look dull."

Nevertheless, the expert still has a lot of love for the Frida actress, joking: “Salma - I enjoy your films but not your skincare advice!"
