Karen Huger is best known for appearing on The Real Housewives of Potomac.

Real Housewives of Potomac’s Karen Huger has been charged with driving under the influence (DUI) and driving while intoxicated (DWI).

The reality TV star, 60, crashed her 2017 Maserati in Potomac, Maryland, on the night of Tuesday 19 March.

She was later categorised as driving ‘aggressively’ by officials and now faces six further traffic violations.

A spokesperson for the Montgomery County Police Department confirmed to People that a single-vehicle collision involving Karen had taken place.

Law enforcement said The Real Housewives personality had ‘crossed a median and struck multiple street signs’ and that her driving was considered ‘aggressive’, as per the publication,

It’s said that obtained court documents state that Karen was stopped at 11.50pm by officials.

She was not arrested at the time of the incident, but was later charged with driving a vehicle while impaired by alcohol and driving while under the influence of alcohol.

As well as being served a DUI and DWI, the mother-of-two is facing six traffic violations, including a charge for negligently driving a vehicle in a careless and imprudent manner endangering property, life, and person.

Other charges include recklessly driving a vehicle in wanton and willful disregard for the safety of persons and property, failure to control vehicle speed on the highway to avoid a collision and driving a vehicle in excess of reasonable and prudent speed on the highway.

Karen also faces a citation for driving a vehicle on the highway with suspended registration and for failing to notify the administration of a change of address within 30 days.

After crashing her Maserati, Karen spoke to TMZ and thanked fans for their ‘prayers and well wishes’ during this ‘frightening’ time.

“I am still in shock from last night's incident, but grateful to be alive today,” she began.

“With the passing of my Beloved Mother, Grief comes and goes in waves, and with Mother's Day approaching it has felt more like a tsunami.”

The businesswoman explained that she had met up with one of her friends for dinner where sensitive and ‘emotional’ topics were brought up.

She claimed that she was ‘crying’ on her journey home and had ‘swerved’ on the road when she allegedly saw a car ‘heading’ for her.

She said: “I swerved to avoid the head-on collision, hit the divider, and then a tree.

“I'm hurt, bruised up a bit, but so grateful I am alive!

"I did receive citations, one of which was unrelated to the incident which is understandable, but what was most surprising is that the car that almost hit me just drove away!”

She made no mention of being intoxicated at the time of the road accident. There were no other passengers in the vehicle during the time of the crash.

Karen is best known for being a star on Bravo’s The Real Housewives of Potomac.

She has been one of the main cast members since the show's premiere in 2016 and has previously made appearances on The Real Housewives of Atlanta and Project Runway.

A Montgomery County Police Department told Tyla: "At approximately 11:50 p.m. Tuesday, March 19, Montgomery County Police 2nd District officers and Fire Rescue responded to the location of Oaklyn Drive and Beeman Woods Way in Potomac for a single vehicle collision involving a 2017 Maserati.

"Preliminarily, it appears that the car crossed a median and struck street signs.

"The driver, Karen Huger, was taken into custody and transported to the 2nd District station in Bethesda, where she was arrested and cited for driving under the influence.

"She was then released."
