While many fans were beaming that Glastonbury saved the best 'til last with Olivia Rodrigo closing the festival's the Pyramid Stage on Sunday (29 June), others clearly weren't so sure.

On Sunday night (29 June), the 22-year-old performed to an adoring crowd on the final day of the iconic British festival, which also saw punk-rap duo Bob Vylan voice their solidarity with Palestine and Lewis Capaldi surprise fans with a 'secret' set, singing hits including 'Vampire', 'Drivers License', and 'Good 4 U'. Additionally, Olivia also brought out The Cure’s Robert Smith for a duet of 'Friday, I'm in Love'.

However, she's since been defended by fans after a swathe of critics called her out for partaking in what they dubbed the 'biggest mistake' during her Glastonbury set.

Some took major issue with the fact that Olivia performed on the Pyramid Stage while The Prodigy carried out their set on the Other Stage.

"Who was responsible for putting Olivia Rodrigo over The Prodigy on the Pyramid stage? You just made the biggest mistake of your career," hit out one X user.

A second declared: "The Prodigy should have been on the Pyramid Stage. End of."

And a third agreed: "I'm sorry, but if you're watching Olivia Rodrigo INSTEAD of The Prodigy right now - you deserve to be banned from every music venue across the globe!!"

Ouch.

Many others, however, rushed in to defend Olivia who is the the second-youngest Glasto headliner ever to Billie Eilish in 2022, who was just 20 at the time.

"Prodigy are great but, I think by the looks of the crowd, people know who Olivia Rodrigo is… they’re singing every word," put forward a fourth X user.

A fifth congratulated: "Headlining Glastonbury at 22 years old. Calling it Glasto. Full live band, special guests, set ups like this. Olivia Rodrigo absolutely smashed it. Pyramid headliner fully deserved."

"Seen my share of Glasto headline sets in my time and that Olivia Rodrigo set is up there you know. Doing that at 22 is nuts. She’s a superstar," echoed a sixth.

Another confessed: "I gotta admit - I was sceptical about Olivia Rodrigo as a Glastonbury headliner. Felt too early in her career. I have been proved wrong. Massively."

And a final fan gushed: "Olivia Rodrigo’s crowd is the purest form of what music’s meant to be: young people screaming their hearts out for someone who gets them.

"Hope the older crowd watching remembers: they were that once, too."
