Nicole Kidman makes cryptic remark in first interview following Keith Urban divorce

The Aussie actress appeared on the cover of Vogue yesterday (8 October)

Nicole Kidman made a very cryptic remark in her first interview following her recent divorce from Keith Urban.

The news broke last week that the 58-year-old Oscar-winning actress and the 57-year-old Grammy-winning country singer had decided to part ways after 19 years of marriage.

According to court documents, the reason for the split has been cited as 'marital difficulties and irreconcilable differences', with the filings including a marriage dissolution and childcare plan agreed on by the couple and submitted for a judge’s approval.

The pair, who tied the knot back in 2006, share two children: Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith Margaret, 14.

Following the news, long-time fans of Kidman have wondered how she's been holding up but, by the looks of her latest public appearance, she seems to be taking life in her stride after appearing in Vogue's cover interview on Wednesday (8 October).

Just weeks before the Babygirl actress officially filed for divorce from Urban, she seemed to subtly hint in the interview at what appeared to be a cryptic preview of the split.

When asked about life in her 50s, Kidman reflected: "How many times do you have to be taught that you think you know where your life is going and then it isn’t going in that direction?"

Granted, it's not the most revealing statement, and she certainly didn’t mention anything about her marriage at the time, but knowing what we know now with the latest news, it’s definitely possible that she was alluding to her imminent breakup.

At the time of her interview, which took place in late August, the Aussie A-lister had not publicly confirmed her split, but by yesterday, when the Vogue piece was published, she had already filed for divorce from Urban.

Fans were very intrigued about the so-called 'cocaine clause' following the former married couple's divorce, with legal expert Aaron Thomas breaking down exactly what it entailed in an interview with Entertainment Tonight.

"This divorce has clearly been in the works for months," he explained.

"This is what a $300 million divorce looks like when you do it right. There's no alimony. There's no drawn-out disputes."

Thomas went on to reference Kidman's previous marriage to fellow Hollywood A-lister, Tom Cruise, whom she was married to from 1990 to 2001. Kidman also shares two adopted children, Bella, 32, and Connor, 30, with him.

"Nicole was previously married and divorced Tom Cruise. And to me, it looks like she took the lessons learned from that divorce and ensured that there'd be no messiness this time around," the legal expert stated.

Getting into the so-called 'cocaine clause', Thomas explained: "Nicole would pay Keith $600,000 for each year of marriage. But if he started drinking or using illegal drugs, he'd forfeit the payout. That's an extremely rare and specific clause, but it reflected real-life concerns."

"It's no surprise that preventing a relapse was top of mind for Nicole," he added.

As we say, they married in 2006 before filing for divorce this year, meaning they've spent 19 years together.

And a quick bit of maths reveals that it adds up to some $11.4 million in payments from the 'cocaine clause'.
