Molly-Mae Hague has revealed the real inspiration for her baby son’s name - and it’s completely different from what everyone had assumed.

The Cheshire-based influencer, 27, officially returned to YouTube on Sunday (21 June) after giving birth to her newborn son, Midas, whom she welcomed with her fiancé Tommy Fury earlier this month.

She and professional boxer Tommy, also 27, revealed that they had named their baby boy Midas in dramatic fashion at his fight against Eddie Hall in Manchester on 13 June.

The sportsman proudly displayed the little one’s name in gold lettering on his shorts as Molly watched on from the audience.

Since then, the former Love Island star has been sharing snippets of life as a family of four, with Midas and their three-year-old daughter, Bambi, but hadn’t yet revealed the meaning behind the unique moniker.

Fans had guessed that the unusual name was inspired by Greek mythology - specifically King Midas, who was associated with wealth had the ability to turn everything he touched into pure gold.

However, the mythological figure was also known for his foolishness and greed, as he realised his mistake when his food became gold, and he nearly starved to death as a result.

But, speaking in her new YouTube vlog, Molly has now revealed that her inspiration was far from Greek legends, and actually came from quite a random film.

Molly told viewers, “So he’s Midas Thomas Fury. We had this name for a boy for quite a few years.

“I saw a couple of comments when the name was being rumoured about how the name originates from Greek mythology because there was a king called King Midas, and he was the King."

The influencer clarified: “He’s not necessarily named after the Greek King. I saw a few comments being like ‘King Midas was a fool in Greek mythology. This is so silly if she’s called her son this’.

“But, the same way Bambi is not necessarily named after the Disney character Bambi, is the same way Midas is not named after the Greek King.”

Molly revealed that she actually found the name while watching the 2011 sci-fi action movie Real Steel, starring Hugh Jackman.

The mother-of-two laughed: “It’s basically like Transformers. It’s the most not me film ever. I showed my mum it the other week, she was like ‘this is so random for you to like this film’ and I was like, ‘I know’.

“But it’s actually such a great film, it’s got Hugh Jackman in it, and it’s a film about robots boxing, and one of the robots in the film that was boxing was called Midas.”

Molly recalled, “I heard the name, and I thought, this was years ago, that’s a really cool, strong name, Midas. I’ve never heard of that before. And I just thought, Midas Fury, wow, what a strong name.

“And then I mentioned it to Tommy, and he just absolutely fell in love with it.”

She concluded: “This could have been like literally years ago, but that was always our boy name, really, that we stuck with.”

So there you have it, not inspired by a legendary myth, but a Hugh Jackman movie about boxing robots - who would have guessed!
