Louis Theroux says he's losing his eyebrows as he shares alopecia struggle

He shared a video on Instagram asking fans for advice

Louis Theroux says he’s losing his eyebrows as he shares his struggle with alopecia, having turned to his fans for advice on Instagram.

Theroux, 53, has previously dabbled with a bit of facial hair, but recently reverted to the fuzz-free look after developing alopecia.

Earlier this year, he took to social media to say he ‘probably’ had the condition, which causes hair loss, posting a photo of his newly-patchy beard.

“So this is what my beard grows like now due to what I think is probably alopecia,” he wrote at the time.

“Basically I get a little triangle of stubble around my mouth and some more at the sides.

“It’s not a big deal, but I don’t want people to think I’m doing something creative with my facial hair and doing it badly, when it’s just what I look like when I don’t shave.

“This is also why I don’t wear a beard as much anymore. Maybe it’ll grow back. Who knows?”

Theroux said earlier this year he thinks he has alopecia.

He later joked that nature had ‘played a cruel trick’ on him, saying he could only ‘grow a weird little Hitler moustache’ if he swerved shaving.

“I have given up on my beard ever growing back to its luxuriant former glory but is too much to ask for it to ALL fall out instead of having a tiny remnant in a potentially offensive configuration?”

Theroux said back in June, adding that a ‘bald patch’ had also appeared on the back of his head.

Now, he has shared a new update with fans, saying he’s started to lose his eyebrows.

“I’d like to know how I’m supposed to continue a career based largely on raising and lowering different eyebrows WITHOUT ANY EYEBROWS!!” he said, sharing the #alopecia hashtag.

“I’m seriously thinking of getting them tattooed back on but it feels like a big step! Thoughts?”

Many of his famous peers stepped in to share their words of wisdom, with radio DJ Annie Mac telling the journalist in the comments: “Microblading babes, you’ll never look back.”

Comedian Rob Delaney added: “The serious alopecia areata on my face was (mostly) solved by cortisone shots in the bald areas and topical application of minoxidil.

“Beyond that you’ll look great without eyebrows or if you get some tattooed on. No right answer in my opinion!”
