Kim Kardashian reveals why she was 'really single' for five years after split with Kanye West

Kim Kardashian said she stayed single for five years so she could ‘heal’ after her traumatic divorce from Kanye West.

She allowed herself a brief romance with comedian Pete Davidson, until she started her current relationship with F1 star Lewis Hamilton this year, reports Hello!

She told The Sunday Times, "I was really single for five years. And that felt great,” she said.

"I could focus on my kids and projects that I really wanted to be involved with. I really felt no rush. Like, I really didn't feel empty,” she continued.

"I felt like I needed my time. I wanted to completely heal and just work on myself. I wasn't ready to open up. I really wasn't even thinking about it. The universe works in your favour when you just allow it to."

Kim filed for divorce from Kanye in 2021 after the rapper made a series of statements which brought him controversy and ushered in a turbulent period in their marriage.

The exes share four children, North, 13, Saint, 10, Chicago, 8 and Psalm, 7.

Kim has discovered romance with Lewis after several years spent concentrating on her family.

The pair have known each other since 2014 and maintained a friendship, however this turned romantic this year, following dating rumours swirling months before they announced their relationship.

On June 7, Kim was spotted cheering Lewis on at the Monaco Grand Prix and Lewis spoke of the reported romance in a post-race press conference.

"It's amazing to have her come this weekend and have the support," he said of the reality TV star. "But, you know, with my friends, incredible turnout, just overall, the people," he added.

"It's amazing to have good people around you and good people supporting you and she does that for me every day."

On September 25, Kim posted via her Instagram account an image showing how she and Lewis shared a passionate kiss under the Eiffel Tower.

“plz get married i love this for u,” one person commented. Another wrote, “She’s living her best life. Go kimmy!!” while a third called them their “favorite couple ‘Kimilton.’”

Even Charmed alum Alyssa Milano joined in, writing, “You are gorgeous and deserve all this happiness and his eyes are so beautiful.”

A source told PEOPLE ‘there’s a comfort level’ between Hamilton and Kardashian because they’ve “known each other for years.”
