Kate Winslet makes surprising sex confession as she encourages women to make one vital check

Kate Winslet recently got candid with How To Fail's Elizabeth Day

Kate Winslet has shared her advice for women who are experiencing a 'dip in libido'.

Oscar-winning actress Winslet, 48, is known for portraying unforgettable characters: Rose DeWitt Bukater in Titanic, Mare Sheehan in Mare of Easttown and Hanna Schmitz in The Reader.

Outside of the world of Hollywood, the Berkshire-born celeb has been married to businessman Edward Abel Smith since 2012 and is a mother to three.

Opening up about their sex life and her health in an interview with Elizabeth Day, Winslet revealed she recently underwent testosterone replacement therapy (TRT)

TRT can be utilised to improve symptoms such as fatigue, low libido and poor concentration.

It is usually delivered by three monthly injections but other methods include topical creams, mouth patches and intranasal gels.

TRT is not without its risks as the method has previously been associated with an increased risk of blood clots and can cause acne, weight gain and excessive sweating.

While answering a question put to her by a concerned listener who was struggling to rekindle her sex drive with a long-term boyfriend, Winslet began: “Sometimes women have a real dip in libido because there might be stuff going on with their thyroid.

“There could also be stuff going on with your level of testosterone.

“A lot of people don’t know this, but women have testosterone in their bodies, and when it runs out—like eggs—it’s gone,” she continued to tell the How To Fail podcast host.

“Once it’s gone, you have to replace it, and that is something that can be done. You’ll feel sexy again. I know.”

Winslet continued to suggest that women who are experiencing a low libido may want to get their testosterone levels ‘checked well’, believing they could have a ‘direct impact on how [they’re] actually feeling’.

“It’s not your fault, our bodies are weird and they behave in strange ways especially as we get older,” the The Regime alumna explained.

“So there could be a dip in those hormonal levels for you that is contributing much more than you think to how you’re feeling about having sex with your boyfriend, so I would definitely go ahead and do that.”

Meanwhile, she told the 45-year-old author that she truly believes women get ‘juicer and sexier’ the older they get.

“I say to my friends all the time ‘You look amazing, you look great.’”

Winslet’s latest film, Lee, released in cinemas over the weekend and is adapted from the 1985 biography, The Lives of Lee Miller by Antony Penrose.

She plays the titular war journalist alongside Andy Samberg’s David Scherman and Alexander Skarsgård’s Roland Penrose.

The movie serves as Ellen Kuras’ directorial debut and chronicles Lee’s career switch from esteemed model to a photographer who was best known for documenting the events of World War II for Vogue.

Speaking to Harper’s Bazaar UK about the movie, Winslet revealed she was told to sit up and hide her ‘belly rolls’ while portraying the war correspondent on set.

“There’s a bit where Lee’s sitting on a bench in a bikini," she explained. "And one of the crew came up between takes and said 'You might want to sit up straighter'.

"So you can’t see my belly rolls? Not on your life! It was deliberate.”

She went on to say that she takes ‘pride’ in looking ‘less-than-perfect’ on the silver screen.

"I’m more comfortable in myself as each year passes. It enables me to allow the opinions of others to evaporate," Winslet added.
