Kate Winslet reveals ‘bizarre’ comment made about her body during filming

Kate Winslet is arguably one of Hollywood's biggest stars out there.

However, the 48-year-old Oscar-winning actress, who has a pretty impressive filmography after starring in blockbuster smashes like Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, The Holiday and - of course - Titanic, is no stranger to her share of 'bizarre' comments made about her appearance.

In fact, when filming Lee, the war drama film coming out in UK cinemas later this week (13 September), she was subjected to a totally uncalled for piece of advice.

Now, the film in question follows the incredible true story of photographer Elizabeth 'Lee' Miller, a fashion model who became an acclaimed war correspondent for Vogue magazine during World War II.

The film, which took a staggering eight years to make, features a star-studded including the likes of Marion Cotillard, Andrea Riseborough, Andy Samberg, Noémie Merlant, Josh O'Connor, and Alexander Skarsgård in supporting roles.

The hard-hitting film's screenplay was adapted from the 1985 biography The Lives of Lee Miller by Antony Penrose, Miller's son.

However, when filming it, Winslet was unfortunately met with an extremely odd interaction.

Speaking to Harper's Bazaar UK, the Academy award-winner opened up about being told to sit up straighter to hide her 'belly rolls' while on set filming Lee.

"There’s a bit where Lee’s sitting on a bench in a bikini," Winslet explained. "And one of the crew came up between takes and said 'You might want to sit up straighter'. So you can’t see my belly rolls? Not on your life! It was deliberate."

When asked if she minded looking 'less-than-perfect' when on screen, the award-winning actress simply replied: "The opposite. I take pride in it because it is my life on my face, and that matters. It wouldn’t occur to me to cover that up.

"I’m more comfortable in myself as each year passes. It enables me to allow the opinions of others to evaporate," she added.

Words to live by.

Elsewhere in the interview, the A-lister revealed: "There was a lot of bullying of me that went on in the media, and that did get to me.

"Look at all those years in my twenties when I was all sorts of different shapes and sizes."

However, Winslet impressively fought back against the body-shaming.

"I do feel a huge sense of relief that women are so much more accepting of themselves and refusing to be judged," she continued.

"Because I don’t know a single contemporary of mine who grew up seeing her mother looking in the mirror and saying, 'I look nice!'

"My mother never did, it was always, 'oh God, I don’t think I can wear this, do I look hippy, does my bum look big?'

"We waste so much time being down on ourselves and I’m just not doing it ever again."

You can say that again!
