Benny Blanco defended by fans after his comments about Selena Gomez following Golden Globes

Fans have stuck beside Benny Blanco following his comments about Selena Gomez following the Golden Globe Awards.

Gomez and Blanco could be seen cosied up together during the awards ceremony, which took place on Sunday (5 January), with the former nominated for two awards; Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series Musical or Comedy in Only Murders in the Building, and Best Supporting Actress in Emilia Pérez.

Now, while she sadly didn't take home one of the prestigious accolades, it's clear her fiancé Blanco was beyond supportive of her achievements anyway.

Now the soon-to-be husband and wife already endured host Nikki Glaser's savage joke, but it's clear that wasn't all the couple would have to deal with for the evening.

Gomez and Blanco could be seen up on the big screen as comedian Glaser noted Gomez's nominations.

"Selena Gomez is here," she began. "A double nominee tonight for Emilia Perez and Only Murders [In The Building], and she's here tonight with her new fiancé Benny Blanco.

"And Benny Blanco is here because of the genie that granted that wish. Man, lucky guy."

The pair clearly took the joke well, with Gomez miming that she was in the lucky one of the two, while music producer Blanco simply laughed and kissed her on the shoulder.

And then, after that, viewers at home weren't shy sharing their shock over Blanco's 'nasty' habit - chewing gum with an open mouth - with many rushing to social media to share their disgust.

One Twitter user penned: "#breakingnews Benny Blanco chewing gum with an open mouth at the Golden Globes."

"Seeing Benny Blanco's face chewing that gum with his mouth wide open makes me want to punch a hole in my wall," declared a second.

A third demanded: "@selenagomez tell Benny Blanco to stop chewing gum with his mouth open yuck!!"

It's clear the couple aren't going to let the haters get them down, however, as Blanco and Gomez have been inundated with praise and support following his latest TikTok post.

In the video, which saw Gomez posing for a camera, the music producer cheered: "Woo! Look at my girl!" prompting her to smile from ear to ear.

He captioned the short clip: "I got to take home the best award of the night."

While some internet trolls had some pretty cruel words to say both specifically about Blanco and the pair's relationship as a whole, many fans rushed in to share their support.

Responding to one troll, a social media user penned: "It IS cute. find genuine happiness and maybe you won’t have to be such a hater."

A second wrote: "May this type of love find us immediately."

"When he hypes up his girl," gushed a third, while a fourth chimed in: "Lol the best future husband cheering on his future wife!"

A fifth said: "Thank you Benny for making our girl happy!"

Another echoed: "I love when you hype her up and get her genuine smile."

And a final social media user responded: "If your man isn’t hyping you up every chance they get, are they even your man?!!!!! LIVINGGGGG FOR THIS."
