People shocked after only just finding out Charlie Sheen’s real name and ethnicity

Netflix viewers rushed to social media to share their astonishment after discovering the actor's birth name

People have been left well and truly shocked after only just discovering what Charlie Sheen’s real name and ethnicity is.

Sheen, who has received numerous accolades including a Golden Globe Award as well as nominations for four Primetime Emmy Awards and three Screen Actors Guild Awards, is best known for starring in award-winning TV series and box-office smash-hits, including Two and a Half Men, Platoon, Ferris Bueller's Day Off and the Scary Movie film franchise.

The 60-year-old also made headlines for decades following incidents surrounding substance abuse, as well as relationship and legal struggles.

In a brand-new documentary, Sheen, after seven years sober, candidly opened up about his rise to fame and public downfall, joined by family and friends who shared untold stories of 'his journey through stardom, struggles, and redemption'. In light of this, many Netflix viewers are only just now clocking what his real name is following the doc's release earlier this month (10 September).

Sheen's birth moniker is worlds apart from the name we've come to know him as.

I mean, how do you get 'Charlie Sheen' from 'Carlos Irwin Estévez'?

Well, for those who don't know, Sheen is the eldest son of Hollywood A-lister Michael Sheen (who was born Ramón Estevez) - famed for starring in cult classics like Apocalypse Now, The Departed and Wall Street so the surname makes sense, but why the change in first name?

"I really liked the way it looked," Sheen wrote in his new memoir, The Book of Sheen.

"I’d sat with Pop the week earlier and got his blessing for the name swap. It was a much smoother father-son, Estevez-to-Sheen morph than the one Dad had suffered with his old man. I told him how important it was to honour him by carrying the name forward."

After making the discovery, fans rushed to social media to share their astonishment with one X user writing: "Still blows my mind Charlie Sheen’s real name is Carlos Estévez and his brother is Emilio…"

"It's crazy coz yesterday I found out that his real name is Carlos Estevez (Charlie Sheen is his stage name)," quipped a second.

A third chimed in: "Charlie Sheen’s real name is Carlos Irwin Estévez [mind blown emoji]."

"Lol I’m watching his documentary on Netflix and his real name is Carlos Estevez. I never knew that!" buzzed another.

And a final X user echoed: "Finding out Charlie Sheen was born Carlos Estevez has completely blown my mind!"

According to ethnicelebs.com, Sheen is Galician Spanish through his paternal grandfather as well as Irish, English, Scottish with 'possibly other' heritage.
