PETA has slammed Britney Spears for getting a new puppy following news that she and husband Sam Asghari were divorcing.
After reports surfaced that the couple had split up, Asghari took to Instagram to confirm that he and Spears had decided to 'end their journey together' after six years of 'love and commitment'.
"We will hold onto the love and respect we have for each other and I wish her the best always," Asghari wrote.
"S**t happens. Asking for privacy seems rediculous [sic] so I will just ask for everyone including the media to be kind and thoughtful."

Asghari reportedly cited 'irreconcilable differences' in his petition to divorce the 41-year-old singer.
Spears is yet to comment publicly about the breakup, but has been busy sharing updates with fans about plans to expand her family – with animals.
Earlier this week, it was reported that Spears and Asghari had agreed to split up the five dogs they shared.
While Asghari was photographed walking their Doberman Porscha – the dog he bought Spears as protection a few years back – it's believed his ex gets to keep Australian Shepherd, Sawyer, Yorkie, Hannah, and two other smaller dogs.
But yesterday, Spears announced that she’d welcomed a new puppy – a fluffy white pooch called Snow – to her brood.
“Introducing Snow … the new edition [sic] to the family,” she said. “It’s her world and we just live in it.”
However, while many fans were no doubt thrilled for the star, animal rights organisation PETA has criticised the move.
While it has not been confirmed whether Spears bought or adopted the new puppy, a representative for PETA told TMZ: "When influential people buy puppies, puppy mills cheer and animal shelters watch the homeless-animal crisis get even worse.
"With this one cutesy post, Britney Spears has sentenced countless deserving dogs in shelters to more days without love, a comfy bed to curl up on, or a chance at a real life."
They added: "She could have been a force for good and adopted, but instead she chose to be toxic, and animals will pay with their lives."
In another previous post, Spears also said she was also due to buy a horse, sharing a photo of her riding one.
“Buying a horse soon!!!” Spears wrote. “So many options it’s kinda hard!!! A horse called Sophie and another called Roar???
“I can’t make up my mind!!! Should I join the camaraderie and put a pink cowboy hat on??? Either way I think I found my sweet spot with Roar!!!”
