Bella Ramsey has confirmed that they would be up for playing Spider-Man, and it's garnered some very mixed reactions.
The 22-year-old Hollywood A-lister, famous for The Last of Us and Game of Thrones, made the comment during the Critics' Choice Awards on Sunday (4 January), where they were asked by Variety about earlier comments on potentially playing Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
"I forgot about that. Oh my gosh. That’s funny," Ramsey, who came out as non-binary and genderfluid in January 2023, said on the red carpet.
They continued: "I’m in the colours! And that was an accident. No, listen, it’s so funny. Just a passing comment can make such a stir, it turns out."

Ramsey then confirmed that they were still up for the web-slinging role, adding: "I’m still up for it! But I haven’t actually thought twice about it since, to be honest."

Their comments echo similar sentiments shared with the outlet in August last year.
It all started when Ramsey was asked if they had told their The Last of Us co-star, Pedro Pascal, if they wanted to be in the next MCU movie.
"I don’t know about that. I could be Spider-Man. Tom Holland did a great job, though. So maybe they do need to make a new [superhero] for me," they said, before recalling watching one of Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man movies.
"It was the first time I watched a Marvel film, and that was two months, three months ago. Incredible. I loved it."

Their remarks sparked a heated discussion online, with the latest comments from the weekend reigniting the social media debate.
Some fans were thrilled with the prospect.
"Bella as Spidey? Now that’s a swing I’d watch," beamed one X user.
A second chimed in: "We’re listening, Bella."
"I would love this omg," gushed a third as a fourth chirped: "Waiting for this."

Others, however, couldn't have disagreed more, as one said: "I think they'd be lucky to sell 10 tickets globally for this movie if this happened."
Another lamented: "Please God, no, I don’t even want that on my TV screen, let alone IMAX."
And a final X user added: "If they want to turn Spider-Man into one of the worst performing franchises in history, cast Bella Ramsey."
The next live-action Spider-Man film, tentatively titled Spider-Man: Brand New Day (or Spider-Man 4), starring Holland, is scheduled for release in July of this year, as part of the MCU's Phase 6.
Following this, the animated Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse is slated for June 2027.
