The Final Episode Of 'The Big Bang Theory' Airs Tonight In The US – Here's What We Know
Its 12-season run will come to an end tonight (Thursday, 16th May) in the US in a bumper one-hour double episode that will follow the characters as they keep secrets and say goodbye.
The two parts of episode 278, entitled 'The Change Constant' and 'The Stockholm Syndrome', will see the gang wrap things up.
In the first part, Sheldon and wife Amy will "await big news" about their Nobel Prize contending project. The second half sees Bernadette and Wolowitz leaving their kids for the first time.
That isn't all, we'll also see Penny and Leonard try to keep a secret and Koothrappali make a new friend "as the gang travels together into an uncharted future".
Speaking about the end, Kaley Cuoco, who plays Penny, said: "There's a lot of emotions going on, very bittersweet. It's very strange that a lot of people are coming up to me saying, 'How are you?' like someone died."
Jim Parsons, who plays Sheldon, added that the series finale is "a real rite of passage".
He said: "And much like more normal rites of passage, be it a bar mitzvah or a wedding or a graduation, there is a feeling of accomplishment.
"And like those events people also tend to cry, even if they are happy and they know that this was organic and the way life is supposed to go."
Referencing how she believes the show should end, Kaley shared: "It should just end with all of us around the table eating Chinese food, like we always do. Simple as that."
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jim Parsons made the decision to pull the plug on the show.
He said: "It was the first time in my life of doing this show that it occurred to me that I might want to not do another contract after [season] 12 was up.
"I don't know if it's because I'm an Aries or just because maybe I'm in touch with myself. Whatever it is, once I had that thought, I was like, 'Well, that's your answer'."
His decision not to be in the show anymore meant that it would have to end, as creator Chuck Lorre believed that there was no way to continue without the full ensemble.
Both halves of the final episode will air tonight in the US on CBS, and on E4 in the UK on Thursday 23rd May.
