Jamie Lynn Spears' New Netflix Series 'Sweet Magnolias' Is Giving Fans Serious 'Gilmore Girls' Vibes
PSA: Last week, Netflix dropped a series called Sweet Magnolias, and we're here to tell you it's the heartwarming lockdown binge you were looking for.
Based on the Sherryl Woods books with the same name, the TV series follows three best friends based in the small, quaint town of Serenity, somewhere near Charelston, South Carolina.
The ten episode show follows leads Maddie (Joanna Garcia Swisher), Helen (Heather Headley), and Dana Sue (Brooke Elliott) as they live out their dream of opening a spa together, and regularly gather for Margaritas at home, grappling with the complexities of romance, their career, and their families.
Elsewhere, Justin Brueing appears as Cal Maddox, Maddie's love interest, Chris Klein stars as Bill Townsend, Maddie's ex-husband and a family doctor and Carson Rowland as Tyler "Ty" Townsend, Maddie and Bill's eldest son.
Plus, Zoey 101 actress (and Britney's sister) Jamie Lynn Spears stars as Noreen Fitzgibbons, Bill's pregnant fiancée who was his once mistress.
Basically, everyone knows everyone in Serenity, and the characters go through small-town dramas from heartache to betrayal, growing and learning about themselves along the way. But it's also a glorious, syrupy celebration of the power of female friendship.
Think Gilmore Girls but more grown up.
We're not the only ones to make the comparison, either.

While another agreed: "To all my fellow All-American, One Tree Hill, Friday Night Lights, Gilmore Girls, Hart of Dixie loving friends: go watch Sweet Magnolias! It's another great Netflix series".
"Sweet Magnolias on Netflix has that feel good warm oozy feeling of the 90s small town series like Gilmore Girls," a third penned.
Charmed producer Sheryl J. Anderson serves as the series' show-runner and executive producer, while Daniel Paulson also worked as an executive producer.
The show is Jamie Lynn Spears' first acting job in over 12 years, but it looks like it could just be the start.
Hinting a second season could be on the cards, Sheryl told The Sun: "I would love to continue this story because I love the characters, I love our cast and crew."
Meanwhile, actor Star Chris Klein agreed, telling the publication that the series is "so vast that there's always an opportunity to take this further."
Make it happen, guys!
