It's the rom-com you put on time and time again when you just need a good cry. However, Netflix has *changed* the heartbreaking ending to The Notebook, and its subscribers are not happy about it.
The Notebook begins with an old man in a nursing home, reading a story to a fellow patient. The story centres on Noah Calhoun (Ryan Gosling) and Allison "Allie" Hamilton (Rachel McAdams), a young couple who fall in love in the 1940s.

Allie's parents don't approve of the relationship, and they move the family away leaving both Allie and Noah heartbroken. Noah writes to Allie every day but the letters never reach her and she gets engaged to another man.
But after years of turmoil and heartbreak, the pair are reunited and rekindle their relationship. The story ends in the same nursing home where it began, with Noah and Allie passing away together peacefully, holding each other's hands after a long and happy life.
However, the movie available to stream on Netflix has an entirely different ending. You can watch it here:

Instead of the pair dying side-by-side, the movie simply ends on the two holding hands and talking about miracles. The pair don't die, and the movie cuts to birds flying over a lake before the closing credits hit the screen.
And plenty of Netflix users who have already watched the film have picked up on the different ending, taking to Twitter infuriated by the streaming giant's decision to cut out the reason why you watch the movie.
"My night is ruined they've changed the ending of The Notebook on Netflix. U r on the wind up," shared one person.
Pretty52 reached out to Netflix to find out why their ending is different, but they declined to comment.
And somebody else fumed: "I watched The Notebook on Netflix last night and they cut the ending of it short and im not one bit happy!!!! Like I wanted a good boo f*cking hoo cry and they cropped out the saddest part. F*ck you Netflix [sic]."
A third vented: "Fuming that Netflix have cut out the ending of the Notebook. Day ruined."
Just watched The Notebook on Netflix and they have cut the ending! What in the world, why would you cut a scene in which the nurse finds the two lovers have passed away in their sleep? What is going on, what have you done, what was wrong with that scene?!?! I'm outraged.

We have to agree that The Notebook is our go-to for a cathartic cry, but it looks like we'll have to find a different film next time for our private sob fest.
