Our favourite gladiator Hercules is set to make a come back, following reports that Disney is working on a live action remake of the 1997 classic.

It will be the 22nd remake from Disney and fans are getting very excited already. In fact, they're desperate to know if Danny DeVito (who was the voiceover for Phil in the original) will return.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Dave Callaham - the mastermind behind the Expendables franchise and Marvel's Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings - has been hired to write the script.

Meanwhile, Joe and Anthony Russo (the filmmakers behind Avengers: Endgame and Infinity War) are expected to produce.

In case you've forgotten (it has been over 20 years) the plot of the original Hercules film, it focussed on gladiator Hercules who was abducted as a baby and made to live among the normal, every day folk on Earth.

As a teenager, super strong Hercules isn't like his friends and becomes an outcast. After his adopted parents present him with the Olympian necklace he was found wearing, Hercules ventures out to seek answers about where he came from.

He travels to the temple of Zeus where he learns he can regain his godly status by training to become a hero. So, with his friend Pegasus, the pair head off to find Phil, a sort of personal trainer for heroes.

Phil is now retired, but Hercules persuades him and together they battles monsters, Hades and Titans before Hercules is forced to make the ultimate sacrifice.

The remake is currently in the very early stages so there are very little details regarding cast, but fans certainly know who they'd like to see star.

Following Ariana Grande's performance of 'I Won't Say I'm In Love' on the Disney Family Singalong, fans have even started a petition on Change.org for the singer to be case as Megara. It currently has almost 14,000 signatures!

Speaking about the remake on Twitter, one fan said: "Dear @ArianaGrande. Please be meg for the Hercules live action remake. You already have the voice (and pony tail). @DisneyStudios please make this happen."

And others had some pretty strong thoughts about Danny DeVito returning, with one fan writing: "If Danny DeVito isn't in the Hercules remake I don't want it."

Another wrote: @DisneyStudios So err... Me and a few others hear you're making a remake of #Hercules and we're wondering if you'd make some #Disney magic happen and bring back a certain someone to play Phil? We'll leave that with you."

One said: "If @DannyDeVito doesn't have his role back in the #Hercules remake then what's even the point."

Come on Disney, give the fans what they want!
