Kate and Rio Ferdinand are receiving heaps of love and support after they opened up about the loss of their baby.

The former The Only Way Is Essex star was preparing to announce her second pregnancy with the former England football player, but before they could make an announcement they discovered their baby had no heartbeat at their 12-week scan.

Kate, 31, shared the heartbreaking news with her 1.4 million Instagram followers on Wednesday evening (27 July) with a black and white photo of her legs wrapped in a hospital gown.

"The last time I was in this hospital I was having Cree, but this time it was because our baby had no heartbeat in our 12 week scan and I had to have surgery," Kate wrote in the caption.

She added: "So much to say, but somehow I can’t find the words. Absolutely devastated & heartbroken …but couldn’t be more grateful for the hugs I got from my big(er) babies coming through the door when we arrived home."
