Kate Ferdinand has just shared the devastating news that she and Rio Ferdinand have sadly lost a baby.

The former The Only Way Is Essex star had been preparing to share the news that she was expecting her second child with the former England footballer, but before they could make their announcement, they were given a heartbreaking update from their doctor.

Kate, 31, revealed that she had been attending her 12-week scan with she was told by doctors that her baby had no heartbeat.

Posting a black and white photo of her legs wrapped in a hospital gown to Instagram, Kate told her 1.4 million followers: "The last time I was in this hospital I was having Cree, but this time it was because our baby had no heartbeat in our 12 week scan and I had to have surgery."

She continued: "We were so excited & planning a space for our new baby in our family, we just couldn’t wait to share our news with you all, but unfortunately sometimes life just doesn’t go as we plan.

"So much to say, but somehow I can’t find the words. Absolutely devastated & heartbroken …but couldn’t be more grateful for the hugs I got from my big(er) babies coming through the door when we arrived home."

Kate and Rio welcomed their first child, Cree, together on 18 December, 2020.

She is also step-mum to Rio's three children from his previous marriage, Lorenz, 15, Tate, 13, and Tia, 10.

The mum's earth-shattering news comes just weeks after her fellow TOWIE alum Lauren Goodger announced that her baby daughter Lorena had died following her birth.

Opening up about the tragedy, Lauren, 35, had explained how doctors fought to save baby Lorena’s life and that her partner, Charles Drury, pleaded with staff to save their baby’s life.

Lauren has explained that she had no complications during her pregnancy and had planned to give birth at home. When it was time to give birth she was instead taken to a delivery suite via an ambulance on 8 July.

Lauren announced earlier this month that she had lost her daughter.

Sharing a black and white photo of her holding Lorena’s hand, she wrote: “She was the most beautiful healthy baby I’ve ever seen just like her sister @babylarose.x … words can’t describe as a mother losing your baby that I carried for all these months perfectly and gave birth too for my angel to be taken from me.”

She continued: “She was fine & healthy but I am not going into detail right now just know that there was nothing wrong with her or myself she was perfect I can’t understand it she is so so beautiful Larose twin so similar. I am broken."
