As you're sure to have seen on your Instagram feed, flip flops have swiftly become the shoe of the summer.

Part of the recent noughties resurgence (capris, anyone?), brands such as Havaianas, FitFlop and Archie's have made a surprising comeback in recent months.

Championed by A-listers including Hailey Bieber, Kendall Jenner and Zoe Kravitz, the high-low trend is easy to replicate.

But this innocent-looking shoe could be more dangerous than you think if you don't pick the right style.

The Amazon Prime Day is live with beauty deals across Sol de Janeiro, Medicube, Weleda and Dyson Airwrap

"I always advise against wearing flip flops for daily activities or for any significant amount of walking on holiday," leading podiatrist Lindsay A Hill of Axis Podiatry warns.

"Wearing any type of open back slip-on footwear is not only a trip hazard, but results in altered gait to be able to walk when wearing them.

"For instance, flip flops require a much shorter stride length and a shuffling style of gait to prevent walking out of the flip flops or them flying off. This can cause sprained ankles, blisters and injuries elsewhere in the body if worn for longer durations on a regular basis."

Thankfully, podiatrist approved flip flops have never been more stylish - and the 2026 Prime Day sale has landed just in time for summer.

Which flip flops are best for your feet?

Luckily for us, some podiatrist approved brands are suddenly all the rage.

"There has been significant development in this area with the likes of FitFlops, Archie's, Oofos and Hoka. They're better for a person's foot health than very flat flip flops with no support," Dr Hill adds.

"They tend to have thicker soles for some shock absorbency, support for the longitudinal arches and a subtle drop in height from the heel to forefoot."

Right now, the most popular styles are in red and brown colourways. You can shop our favourites below (before they sell out).

One of the best options if you're really after support, Archies offer orthotic arch support and promote whole-body alignment -so you don't need to feel guilty sliding around the supermarket.

The best part? Red is one of the most sought after colours right now and there are plenty of sizes available online.

Available in four colours, the iQushion flip flops might look like your everyday sandal, but they're built for all-day comfort and support.

In fact, they're an Amazon bestseller, and customers say they have 'walked miles' in them.
