We’re seriously getting Parks & Recreation vibes.
Servant of the People focuses on the life of a normal teacher (Zelensky) who becomes president out of the blue after his rant against corruption becomes a viral sensation on social media.
The series aired for three seasons on the Ukrainian television network 1+1 and was produced by Kvartal 95, a company founded by Zelenskyy.
The comedy was picked up for international distribution by Netflix and remained part of its vast library between 2017-2021.
Servant of the People, which was also created by Zelenskyy, ended its run in 2019 when life imitated art and the former sitcom star and comedian decided to run for president.
Zelenskyy is a member of the Servant of the People political party in Ukraine, which was formed in 2017 and named after his hit sitcom.
He was voted the president of Ukraine in April 2019.
Servant of the People has received renewed attention and interest following the invasion of Ukraine led by Russian president Vladimir Putin which began in February 2022.
In fact, people have delved deep into Zelenskyy’s career before he became Ukraine’s leader. He previously provided the voice for Paddington bear in the Ukrainian version of the beloved film and he won Dancing with the Stars, the international version of Strictly Come Dancing.
People in the UK can stream episodes from Servant of the People for free on Channel 4’s streaming service All4.
