Virgin Atlantic Confirms Whether Rachel Could Have Got On The Plane

Virgin Atlantic Confirms Whether Rachel Could Have Got On The Plane

This changes everything.

Virgin Atlantic has revealed that Rachel wouldn't have been able to use Emily's ticket to board the plane to Athens in Friends.

The scene was part of 'The One After Ross Says Rachel' where - having said Rachel's name at the alter - Ross begs his wife Emily to forgive him, suggesting they at least head off on their honeymoon to Greece together.

You can watch a clip below:

But after waiting at the airport for Emily, Virgin calls the final passengers and Ross realises she isn't going to show up.

Out of pure coincidence, he bangs into Rachel, who has been delayed returning from London, and Ross suggests she come on the honeymoon instead.

After a little umming and ahhing, Rachel agrees, and boards the Virgin plane using Emily's ticket. Of course, fans will know that Emily does show up, just in time to see Ross about to head off on their honeymoon... with Rachel.

If you're a major fan of the show, you'll likely have watched the episode at least 10 times, right? But even now, over 25 years on from the show, mega fans are still debating certain scenes.

Taking to Reddit, many were concerned over the logistics - would Rachel really be able to take Emily's ticket at such short notice?

Posting on Reddit, the fan wrote: "After watching the show for the 500th time, I just noticed: I don't think Rachel would be able to get on the plane using Emily's name without the id/passport."

Other Redditors were divided, with some believing this wouldn't have been possible, while others claimed it was.

One wrote: "This was 1998. Flying then was much different. Anyone could go to a gate without a ticket or ID. It is totally within the realm of possibility that they just looked to see she was on the right flight and let her on."

Others disagreed however, with one commenting: "I was a young adult flying in 1998. You couldn't use someone else's ticket, even 'back then'. I don't remember when it changed, but it was true by 1998."

Well, Virgin have confirmed that no, Rachel wouldn't have been able to use the ticket, telling Tyla that it "wouldn't have been possible".

That's that settled then!
