Love & Gelato was released on Netflix last week - but viewers are pretty divided over the Italy-based rom-com.

The film - which is based on the 2016 book by Jenna Evans Welch - tells the story of Lina Emerson, who is about to start college.

Lina's mum is dying, and has one wish for her daughter - to visit Rome and meet her father. Although reluctant to go at first, Lina decides to spend the summer in Italy before she begins college.

In Rome, Lina discovers way more than she bargained for - romance, family, and of course, a lot of gelato.

"I really feel like I needed to come here to figure myself out," Lina says in the trailer.

"Well, Italy, I have this weird feeling you might completely change my life."

But some viewers have been disappointed with the film, with many going as far as to call it the 'worst movie they've seen'.

One person wrote on Twitter: "Love and gelato's movie adaptation was the worst movie I had ever watched."

While another said: "Love and gelato didn't get the justice it deserved wth is this."

And a third added: "Anyone who read Love & Gelato and will be watching the adaption on Netflix: be prepared for a lot of changes. I’m only about 10 minutes in & it’s almost unrecognizable."

"20 minutes in and I’m giving up on this movie. I’m so disappointed but a better way to spend my time would just be to reread Love and Gelato," commented a fourth.

Others disagreed, however, with some loving the feel good movie. One wrote: "My soft babes and hopeless romantics, check out Love & Gelato on Netflix. It’s got all the sweet romcom feels and it’s corny as hell."

And another added: "Love and gelato was actually really cute and wonderful movie. i had zero expectations and was expecting the typical cringey netflix movie, but it's actually really amazing and I immediately got hooked."

What do you think?

In other movie news, earlier this week, Disney dropped the first trailer for Hocus Pocus 2.

It's the long awaited sequel to the cult classic movie featuring three sister witches causing havoc in the town of Salem.

Picking up 29 years after the events of the first movie, three high school students manage to awaken the Sanderson sisters and accidentally unleash them on Salem.
