Mamma Mia... Here we go again! Yes - again.

That's right, it's time to read up on your lyrics and pull out the flared jumpsuit because we could soon be heading back to the all-singing, all-dancing world of Mamma Mia!

Fans were treated to a sequel in 2018 following the success of the original film released - wait for it - 14 (!) years ago, but Ol Parker, the writer and director of Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, has now issued an exciting update about a possible third instalment of the series.

Judy Craymer, the producer behind the first two Mamma Mia! films and the popular stage show, previously discussed the possibility of a third film during an interview with the Daily Mail in 2020, shortly after the coronavirus outbreak took over the world.

The producer revealed at the time that she had planned to think about the third movie during lockdown, but admitted she found it hard to focus while the world was going through such tumultuous times.

Meryl Streep and Amanda Seyfried starred in the original film.

"I was meant to have been getting on with that, in my head, during these months. But then I got hit with Covid fog,’ she said, adding: "I think one day there will be another film, because there’s meant to be a trilogy, you see. I know Universal would like me to do it."

Two years on and no official announcement about a third film has been made, but during an interview with ScreenRant Parker indicated that another instalment is definitely on the producer's to-do list.

He commented: "Judy Craymer, the genius producer behind the musical and the first two films, always plans for it to be a trilogy.

"That's all I can say. The first one made an enormous amount of money, and I think we made a fair amount too. I know that there is a hunger for a third, and I know that she has a plan. Wouldn't it be lovely?"

The 2018 sequel offered fans of the film a bit more background to Donna's story, taking us back in time to when she travelled Europe and made some 'what a night!' moments with her various love interests.

At the same time, a present-day storyline revealed that Meryl Streep's fun-loving character had passed away, leaving the hotel in the hands of Sophie, Sky and their newborn baby.

It's unclear where the story could go in a new film, but there's no doubt it will be accompanied by some epic songs.
