The 22-year-old trainee accountant from South Shields posted a screenshot of the horrific messages sent by a troll through Instagram direct messages.

On Thursday, the 22-year-old shared some examples of the vile messages in her inbox.

The chain of messages included one which read: "Absolute ugly b*tch, you have nothing going for you."

Lillie posted a lengthy response in her next post on her Instagram Stories where she addressed the awful messages which she said “blows my mind.”

She wrote: “As per my previous post...Majority of my DM's are so lovely and I always try and focus on you sweet angels who are sending me positivity.

"To be threatening someone you've never met absolutely blows my mind.

"I'm still so new to this world of exposure and I'm learning along the way what's worth to address and what's not. This one I feel passionate about."

She then echoed her support for the LGBT+ community in reference to the message that compared her to a man in a wig. “A man in a wig is f*cking beautiful, so if you want to try insult me, try harder.

"I am a huge LGBT+ supporter and you know what little titty's [sic] are sexy too."

Lillie then encouraged her 139,00 followers to share body positivity quotes to post on her Instagram story.

A Facebook company spokesperson confirmed to Tyla that the Instagram account has been disabled. They said: "Abusing and threatening others is unacceptable, and we don’t want it on Instagram. We understand how distressing it must have been for Lillie to receive these messages, and we’ve disabled the account that sent them for breaking our rules.

"We encourage anyone who experiences DMs like this to report them so we can take action, and to use the features we’ve developed to help protect people from abuse. These include Limits, which hides comments and DMs during spikes of unwanted attention, and Hidden Words, which allows you to filter abusive words, phrases and emojis from your comments and DMs, so you never have to see them.”

Tyla has contacted ITV comment.

Lillie’s Love Island stint caused quite the stir after entering the show during Casa Amor week. She had a connection with Liam Reardon, who kissed her multiple times despite being coupled up with Millie Court in the main villa.

The official Love Island social media accounts posted a messaging urging viewers to "be kind" ahead of the recently ended series.

In June Love Island published their duty of care for contestants.
