Exciting news just in – we finally know when we will be able to watch what’s set to be Netflix’s next smash hit.
It has been confirmed by Variety that Inventing Anna, the hotly-anticipated drama penned and produced by Shonda Rhimes, will be available on the streaming service from February next year. The day of release will be confirmed at a later date.
The series is based around the now infamous New York magazine article written by Jessica Pressler which documented the stranger-than-fiction tale of Anna Delvey – the charming Russian ‘socialite’ who grifted her way into the upper eschelons of New York’s party circuit – as well as making them part with thousands of pounds of their cash to fund her luxury lifestyle.

After Rhimes, who also produced Netflix mega hit Bridgerton last year, read the story in 2018, she immediately wanted to turn these strange events into a drama.
Having previously signed a Netflix talent deal in 2017, Inventing Anna was Rhimes’ first major project with the streaming giant. It’s also the first show that Rhimes has created since 2012 hit, Scandal.
Inventing Anna will be told from Vivian’s perspective as she investigates Anna’s story – speaking to the people she conned, the people she charmed, and Anna herself.

Anna, real name Anna Sorokin, was convicted of grand larceny and theft in April 2019. She was given a sentence of four to 12 years in prison, fined $24,000 (£17,621) and ordered to pay restorative costs of $199,000 (£146110).
She was released from prison after two years for good behaviour and was placed on parole. However, she was facing deportation back to Germany, and is currently under ICE custody over in the States.
Inventing Anna drops on Netflix next year.
