However, in the season finale, the pair are hauled beneath the proverbial heaven’s gates after a lethal accident which involved alcohol and a microphone.

The pair were met with none other than Dolly Parton (Agnes) - a “working-class angel” who “hasn’t had a promotion in 250 years”.

Fans took to the social media site to share their joy in Dolly’s cameo on the show, with one writing: “Really hoping when I die I see @dollyparton and my besties #graceandfrankie.”

Another echoed: “All my life I knew @DollyParton is who greets people in heaven.”

“Loving this 9 To 5 reunion! #GraceAndFrankie,” they continued, referring to the fact that the trio headed up the comedy movie in 1980.

“My heart is so excited to see Dolly Parton on #GraceAndFrankie,” another wrote.

“DOLLY PARTON,” a different fan simply penned alongside a crying emoji.

Grace and Frankie’s time in heaven together came to a swift end, however, when Dolly’s Agnes realised that Grace was not yet meant for the big white gates, while Frankie was destined to remain there. Agnes eventually caved and sent the best friends back to solid ground on earth.

Season seven of Grace and Frankie is available to stream now on Netflix.
