Elle Fanning has already stunned fans in the first look at her new crime series The Girl From Plainville, which is set for release next month.

The actress stars in the Hulu series as Michelle Carter, a young woman who was convicted of involuntary manslaughter after sending a series of text messages encouraging boyfriend Conrad Roy to take his own life.

The series is based on the famous 'texting suicide' case of 2014.

Michelle Carter was eventually convicted of involuntary manslaughter in 2017, and was sentenced to 15 months in prison.

In 2020 Carter was released from prison and is currently serving five months on probation.

While fans are excited to sink their teeth into the series, many can't get over just how much Elle Fanning looks like her character Michelle Carter.

After watching the trailer, one fan tweeted: "the resemblance is uncanny but Elle Fanning understood the assignment I fear, her Emmy is coming."

A second wrote: "Oh so Elle Fanning really told Hulu 'I'm going to be nominated for two Emmys this year.'"

A third commented: "Anyone else follow that Michelle Carter texting case? Elle Fanning is playing her and she looks JUST LIKE HER. Like I thought this was actually her."

One shocked viewer wrote: "OK is anyone else freaked out by how much Elle Fanning looks like Michelle Carter?"

Another said: "The resemblance between Elle Fanning and Michelle Carter is uncanny. I’m excited to watch this true-crime drama on Hulu!."

The Girl From Plainville is set to premiere in the US on 19th March on Hulu.

Though no date or platform has been announced for the UK as of yet, it is expected that the series will follow in the footsteps of other Hulu series like Dopesick and The Kardashians, and join Disney + UK.
