Dexter Fans Stunned As Debra Morgan 'Returns From The Dead' In New Series

Dexter Fans Stunned As Debra Morgan 'Returns From The Dead' In New Series

'I feel like I'm going to pass out. I missed Debster!'

While watching a show about an actual serial killer, you'd probably learn to expect the unexpected - particularly when said serial killer comes across as so darn likeable.

Fans felt pretty sentimental about the return of their favourite character after the US premier of Dexter: New Blood, but one character's return in particular had them feeling shaken to the core.

Deborah Morgan - otherwise known as one half of Debster - is back.

'But wait!' you may cry. 'Didn't she die at the end of the series finale?'. Well... yes, technically. But it's not what you think.

Dexter dumped his adoptive sister's body at the end of the show's original run (eight-year-old spoiler alert) after she was shot in the abdomen and left on life support.

Dexter: New Blood takes place 10 years after those events, so it's pretty safe to say she isn't coming back in human form any time soon!

To fans' delight and awe, Deb returns as a figment of the title character's imagination. This way, the writers can keep her around to unleash his 'human' side whenever he needs it. Pretty creative!

Speaking at the 2021 Television Critics Association Summer Press Tour, Jennifer revealed that Deb is "more of a link or an echo or an inconvenient truth for Dexter".

She said this version of the character is meant to "come back and sort of haunt and punish and caretake and provoke and love Dexter".

Jennifer also said it was "cosmically profound to go back" to playing Deb.

In any case, fans were overjoyed to see the beloved character reunited with her brother.

"Deb's the heartbeat to the tin man", Twitter user @winonaforevr said. "She held him accountable".

"Deb being Dexter's new ghost... oh they're sick [sic]", a second fan said.

"Are you telling me ghost Deb and Dexter had "moments" in the new ep?!? I feel like I'm going to pass out. I miss Debster [sic]" said a third.
