Davina McCall is being praised for having her coil replaced on camera in a bold new documentary all about the 'contraception revolution'.

The new Channel 4 documentary explores the pill's decline in recent years, with natural family planning on the rise, as Davina investigates the various available options.

Davina's documentary asks whether our current healthcare system is giving women the care they really need, and the famed TV presenter has got up-close-and-personal to look into the matter.

Davina McCall is being praised for 'demystifying' the procedure.

The doc, titled Davina McCall's Pill Revolution, first aired last night (8 June), and has gone down a treat with viewers at home, who are coming out in their masses to congratulate Davina for the brave televised gynaecologist visit.

In the clip, Davina can be seen laying down on a table as she prepares to get her coil removed.

Professor Dame Lesley Regan, a leading gynaecologist begins by telling Davina: "Lay yourself back. Give me a shout if you're uncomfortable in any way."

Lesley then attempts to distract her by asking her where she was 'planning to go on holiday this year' before Davina let's out a small chuckle.

"Think about lying on a beach," she advises as she puts on gloves for the procedure.

The gynaecologist removed the coil that had been there for 'nearly five years'.

Lesley, who has recently been appointed by the government as the UK's first women's health ambassador, continued: "I'm just going to gently pop some gel into the vagina so it'll feel little bit cold and a little bit wet."

She explained it was a 'numbing gel' which is used to 'help the speculum go in very easily'.

"It will also make the neck of the womb feel a little bit numb," Lesley added.

The esteemed gynaecologist then put a 'little plastic speculum' in at which point Davina asked: "So it just opens me up, right?"

"That's correct," Lesley replied.

In a background narration, Davina explained: "The speculum is always a bit uncomfortable. Most women watching this over the age of 25 will know that from having smear tests, but it's not too bad.

"And with this gel, I can barely feel a thing. Time to take the old coil out."

Lesley then instructed Davina: "All right now I want you to take a deep breath and I want you to blow out your breath and hit the ceiling," at which point she removed the coil which had 'been sitting there for nearly five years'.

"Oh, that was a bit uncomfortable," Davina disclosed.

"I have got a bit of cramping happening," she added. "It's like a period pain, but all quite handleable the blowing out thing, Lesley, was a masterpiece."

Viewers of the programme have since rushed to social media to share their reactions to the documentary clip with one Twitter user writing: "Surely Davina will get an OBE for her televised gynaecologist visit. Brilliant."

A second posted: "Watching #C4DavinaPill, so important to highlight the variety of contraceptive methods available. Very brave of @ThisisDavina to show her coil change on TV - it really does demystify the procedure."

"So so happy there’s finally been documentary on women’s contraception," penned a final Twitter user.

"I’ve recently come off my pill and had a coil fitted and I had to do most of the research around my problems with my pill myself. The videos online about both the pill and coil are never positive."

Davina McCall's Pill Revolution is currently available to watch on Channel 4.
