The Staircase Viewers Are Calling Colin Firth's Portrayal Of Michael Peterson 'Uncanny'

Colin Firth portrays Michael Peterson who was found guilty of murdering his wife.

True crime fans are in shock after watching Colin Firth's 'uncanny' portrayal of Michael Peterson in the drama series The Staircase.

The Staircase is an eight-part true crime series about Michael Peterson, a crime novelist convicted of murdering his wife Kathleen, whose body was found at the bottom of the staircase at their home.

Crime author Michael Peterson was charged with her 2001 murder and was found guilty.

He has always maintained his innocence including after he he was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole in October 2003.

In 2017 he submitted an Alford plea to the reduced charge of voluntary manslaughter and the judge sentenced him to time already served and he was freed.

Peterson’s case has been documented in a 13-episode Netflix documentary series and those who watched it are convinced Colin’s mannerisms and voice is spot on.

The cast also includes Rosemarie DeWitt, Juliette Binoche, Parker Posey, Sophie Turner, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Dane DeHaan and Olivia DeJonge.

The series has received positive reviews from critics, with lots of praise for Colin's acting. The consensus on Rotten Tomatoes reads: "The Staircase doesn't hold many surprises for those already intimate with the original documentary, but this dramatization brings a fresh perspective and texture to the mystery—along with a terrific performance by Colin Firth".

The Staircase airs Thursday 9pm on Sky Atlantic.
