Nike Launches Its First Ever Maternity Collection

In great news for mums and mums-to-be, Nike has launched its first dedicated maternity collection.

Designed to support women "during all stages of pregnancy and beyond" the range includes items like comfy sports bras with access for breast feeding and sleek maternity shirts.

What's more, all the cuts, styles and fabrications have been trialled by nearly 30 female athletes who were pregnant or postpartum - so mums can rest assured that the collection has been tested by those in the know.

Available at Nike.com and Nike Town from 17th September, the four-piece Nike (M) Collection consists of the Nike (M) Pullover, the Nike (M) Swoosh Bra, the Nike (M) Tank and Nike One (M) Tight.

While creating the pieces, Nike's design team went through pregnancy data with a fine-tooth comb, trawling through 150,000 comparison scans of non-pregnant women against those of pregnant women.

The supportive designs give flexibility to mums as their relationship with their bodies and sport change simultaneously.

Carmen Zolman, Nike Senior Design Director, said: "The more we listened to expecting mothers and postpartum mothers, the more we learned, reworked and innovated through inclusive design.

"It's the project of a lifetime to work in lockstep with all kinds of mothers to bring to life a capsule that truly supports women's relationship with sport during such a transformative time in their lives."

Pregnant and postpartum athletes who trialled the capsule collection have praised the flexibility and practicality of the designs.

"The Nike (M) sports bra is great because it'll give me easy access for when I want to breastfeed," says retired British track and field athlete and new mum, Perri Edwards.

"The leggings give you options of wearing over your tummy or showing your tummy, and the maternity shirt has this extra material for the extra weight that I'm carrying. You look very smart, very comfortable, very hip."
