John Lewis has unveiled its Christmas range of merch inspired by its brand new advert, including a plush toy of ‘Snapper’ itself.

Watch the 2023 John Lewis ad below:

The ad this year, titled ‘Snapper, The Perfect Tree’, follows a little boy whose grow-your-own Christmas tree turns out to be a mischievous Venus flytrap.

The fast-growing plant becomes an 'equally big personality who wants to join in all the fun of Christmas', but is eventually cast out into the cold to make way for a traditional tree.

However, the boy is determined for Snapper to have a place in the celebrations, and his family all head outside with their presents and place them underneath the plant - who proceeds to eat them up and spit out gifts for each of them.

The ad then ends with the strapline ‘Let your traditions grow’.

And, of course, behind every John Lewis Christmas ad is a line of accompanying merch, which are available at all John Lewis shops and selected Waitrose stores.

The Snapper collection features stocking fillers from as little as £3, including a Printed Bauble for £6, Tote Bag for £6 and a cute Boxed Biscuit for £4.50.

There’s also a Plush Plant of the character in the advert, which is yours for £18 - with a limit of three per customer - along with matching fluffy Snapper Slippers for the same price.

The retailer even has two types of pyjamas on sale, with prices starting from £19 for kids and from £34 for adults – including a beautiful botanical print set for men and women.

An adorable children’s story book telling the story of Snapper is also on sale for £9.99, with John Lewis saying in the product description: “Based on the John Lewis Partnership 2023 Christmas advert, Snapper is a heart-warming tale of acceptance and friendship, and how we can all grow our own traditions.

"A book for young children with illustrations by Christine Cuddihy and a rhyming story by author Lucy Feather.”

Commenting on the new campaign, Charlotte Lock, Customer Director for John Lewis, said: “We are a nation that loves the traditions of Christmas - from classic traditions like pantos and putting up the tree to evolving new ones like crafting our own presents and Zoom get-togethers.

You can even buy a living venus fly trap.

“Many of us have our own unique festive traditions and that makes them even more special.

“The film celebrates themes of family and evolving traditions and shows that a ‘perfect’ Christmas is finding joy together with loved ones, whatever your traditions.”
