UK lingerie brand in shock after 'adult' content is flagged by Instagram

Vivi Leigh London has spoken out about the struggles of being a women's lingerie brand on social media

A lingerie brand has spoken out after being restricted on Instagram for its 'adult' content.

Vivi Leigh London says several of its images celebrating the female body have been flagged as inappropriate, making it difficult for the British label to reach new followers.

Some of the photos showed partial nudity, such as a flash of buttock, or a breast in a mesh bra, with a flower covering the nipple.

According to the brand, at least seven images have been flagged along with the message: "This content can't be recommended to non-followers. Consider editing or removing this post. Content that follows our Recommendations Guidelines could get you more reach."

Reduced visibility on the posts meant the account was labelled as non-recommendable, although this has since been resolved.

A spokesperson for Vivi Leigh London told Tyla: "As a luxury lingerie brand, we’ve encountered a growing issue with social media platforms, particularly Instagram, flagging and shadowbanning our content for 'adult' imagery.

"Ironically, the images in question often showcase the female body in natural, artistic, or fashion-forward ways—no explicit content, no pornography—yet they still get censored."

They added: "We want to stand by the belief that the female form should be celebrated, not suppressed. We refuse to take down our flagged images—because beauty and sensuality aren’t things to be hidden."

Vivi Leigh London sells 'bold and unapologetic' lingerie that's designed to be comfortable enough for easy, everyday wear.

Made in England with serious attention to detail, the label is crafted from delicate sheer mesh and silk fabric adorned 24K gold hardware.

The collection is small but mighty with a curated selection of bras, knickers, suspenders, and harnesses to choose from in classic black and blush pink.

Designed to be made your own, the collection can be mixed and matched depending on how you're feeling, whether you want to make a statement or just feel empowered in your daily routine.

But fans don't just love the brand for its aesthetic. The British fashion house is also known for its commitment to sustainability and ethical practices.

As part of this pledge, there’s a strong focus on slow fashion; lingerie is made in the UK using natural fibres that are biodegradable or otherwise heading to landfill and Vivi Leigh London only works with European suppliers.

Our favourite part? We all know how tricky it can be to find underwear that fits well. In a revolutionary move, Vivi Leigh London has launched a unique made-to-order service designed to help customers find lingerie that feels as good as it looks. So, if you've never quite known your correct bra size, now is the time to upgrade your undies drawer.
