Over the last few years, people have tried every beauty hack in the book in the pursuit of ‘glass skin’ - a flawless, mirror-like complexion.

Now, a homemade face mask is doing the rounds on TikTok and it costs less than a fiver to make.

On the social media platform, people are smothering their faces in a budget rice mask to 'reduce the appearance' of acne, fine lines, eczema, redness, and hyperpigmentation such as dark spots. A practice originating from Asian culture, rice water has been used for centuries to achieve clear, glowing skin.

Now, there are hundreds of TikTok tutorials demonstrating how to create DIY rice face masks - and influencers say it’s ‘nature’s best exfoliant’ that will leave your skin ‘bright and smooth'.

How to make the viral rice water face mask at home

The rice face mask is customisable and can be created by following the below steps. You will need rice (£1.25 on Amazon), tap water, and Manuka honey (£2 on Holland & Barrett) to create the face mask.

  • Add one cup of rice and three cups of water to a pan.
  • Rinse two to three times, draining the water each time.
  • Add a quarter of the rinsed rice and one cup of water to a pot and boil until soft.
  • Once complete, strain the rice and whisk in a blender (or by hand) until you have a smooth paste. It's up to you how thick to make the mask.
  • Allow to cool. If you would like to add Manuka honey, mix a few small scoops in now.
  • The face mask is ready to go and will last in the fridge for up to one week.
  • Apply to a clean face and leave on for around 20 minutes before rinsing.

You can shop the ingredients on Amazon.

If you don’t fancy creating the concoction yourself, there’s a ready-to-go rice water face mask that’s gone viral on TikTok. With thousands of rave reviews, the Beauty Of Joseon Ground Rice and Honey Glow Mask has earned a legion of fans, who have been left impressed by the results.

One TikTok user by the name @haileymarcolina filmed a 'before and after' video using the cult product and said the ‘results simply speak for themselves’. In the clip, she says her acne was ‘significantly smaller’ and ‘redness was reduced’ after just one use.

In the comments section, followers were shocked with the face mask's capabilities. One wrote, “Your skin is GLOWING, consider me influenced!”

What does the viral rice water face mask do?

The Beauty Of Joseon Ground Rice and Honey Glow Mask is packed full of hydrating, anti-inflammatory ingredients you’ll likely have heard of such as squalene and niacinamide.

But rice hull powder is the real hero ingredient here. According to the brand, promises to reduce the appearance of pores, enhance brightness, and leave the skin 'deeply hydrated'. Meanwhile, the addition of honey is designed to calm the skin and reduce inflammation.

According to reviews, the product has helped people with different skin concerns, from eczema and rosacea to acne. One customer wrote: "Trust me I have used a lot of masks in my life, this one is SO GOOD. It brightens my skin, softens skin, and remove pores. If I could, I would gate keep this product."

Where to buy the rice water face mask

The Beauty Of Joseon Ground Rice and Honey Glow Mask is currently available at a discounted price of £12.49 on Stylevana.
